Interesting childrens names

We named our DD Morgaine, pronounced More-gay-n. It is the name of one of my favorite characters, Morgaine Le Fay from Mists of Avalon.

Her middle name is Deborah, after DH's late mom.

We call her Gainey (Gay-knee) for short, and if she dislikes it too much, she can go by Debbie when she gets older. =O)

We are not "unusual namers" I have 3 other children: Courtney (spelled just like that, no weird spelling), and then Tom and John. hehehe

Tom has no middle name, just the initial J, which is his dad's first initial. It took me 3 days to come up with Tom, so we didnt push it. :rotfl:

So he is THomas J. And this was BEFORE the movie My Girl.

Okay, I was lurking and decided to throw out a few of my favorites:

My aunt who works in a NICU had two sets of twins with unusual names, one cool, one not so cool:
Addison (girl) and Clark (boy) - Cub fan parents!
Thunder and Lightening (I'm not kidding)

Twins from DH's third grade class a couple of years ago:
De'Shawn & Dae'Shawn

Birth announcement from the paper that we STILL talk about:
Sparkling Diamond Jones (or some other common last name)

And my personal favorite, a couple I went to college with...
Seth Klungseth married Ann McClung so now she is Ann McClung Klungseth! :teeth:

DSIL and DBIL named their 3 Tessa Suzanne, Kenneth Alexander, and Emma Nicole. All 3 are family names. Tessa is a bit unusual, but Emma is really popular right now.

My younger DD is Tessa Louise. When I was pregnant, everybody thought it was a strange name. Now that she is 9 we get compliments on it all the time. A lot of people want to know if it is short for another name. Nope!

My DH is a pediatrician who comes across a lot of interestng names. Last month he saw a new baby girl who was named Wednesday. FYI, she wasn't born on Wednesday and they have never seen the Adams Family!

some diffefernet names I've heard -they aren't all weird in a bad way...

Garner
Aubrey
Mabry
Asia
Avery (though it's popular now)
London
Rock

hmmm- can't think of any others right now....

No lie, my wife has a coworker who named her daughter..... drum roll please.........

Some people need to be taken to the wood shed and beaten with a 2x4.

My name is Ursula. It may not be all that unusual and no, I am not a huge sea witch.

My mother chose lovely names for us all, Rosemary Doren, Bernadette Sarah, Monica Bridget, Ursula Camille and the prince-John Francis Xavier.

Funny story about my brother's name. When he was born, my mother said to my dad, ok-we have a boy! You pick the name! He chose Finbar (patron saint of my father's hometown of Cork, Ireland).

My mother said, you had your chance and this is what you came up with?? :rotfl2:

Needless to say, she went in a different direction.

:rotfl2: She should have combined the two last names to McClungseth!

My sister in laws brother is having a baby girl and naming her Presley, I think it's cute.

We are right in the thick of baby naming our boy, due in June. (In fact, I have a few threads that I posted a while back on this already...)

Our DD's name is Madison Rylie. (Pronnounced RY-lee) It was actually going to be Rylie Madison, but we switched it after she was born. Rylie is spelled a bit diffeently because the normal way of spelling it (Riley) seemed more boyish to us....

Before we found out the sex of this baby, we had said that if we had a girl, we would name her Makena Grace. Makena is actually a town on Maui that DH and I have visited, and we loved it, and the name!! (FYI - I also have liked Delaney, too, but DH didn't).

Now that we have a son coming, things have gotten more complicated. DH loves unusual names, and while I do, too, some of his are REALLY unusual. One that he likes is Miller. (UGH- NO WAY!!) Another is Cooper. Cooper is out, because we just got a new kitten and named him Cooper. :teeth: So, now we are down to Carter, which is what I think we are going to go with. Middle name is still up in the air, but we are leaning towards Jamison.

OMG I just read this. That one is bad.... In middle school my nickname was Ashole. Prounouced Ash hole. Yep. :confused3 :teeth:

I went to school with a girl who named her daughter Castle.

Just remembered another one.

My aunt works in the billing department of a hospital. She once saw this doozy cross her desk. I am sure I am spelling them wrong, but here goes...

Twin girls... Fascination and Passionation

Sorry to sound harsh but some of the names people have called their kids on here really should appear on the website someone linked to early in the thread! :rotfl2:

Did you see that I had posted earlier that I have a daughter named Presley Grace? The name just fits her. There aren't a whole lot of Presleys, but it is definitely picking up in popularity though because I hear about it more and more.

DD name is Caolyn, and no it's not a typo! If pronounced correctly it would be Key-O-Lynn. But to simplify things it's pronounced K-Lynn.

Most people can't pronounce it and think that we misspelt Carolyn :rotfl2: .

I have a new niece, her name is Caylen, but it is prononced the same way as your DD's name.

My kids have simple names, easy to spell and prononce (for both them and others.) Anna and Lily. I like it, I hate it when kids can't even say their own names because they are too hard or way too long for a 4 year old to write. :teeth: We thought Lily was rather orginal when we named her (the only other Lily we knew was my DH's parents neighbors, a very sweet 75 year old lady.) Now we know like 7 other baby Lily's. So even when you are being orignal now a days, it isn't. I think Mary would be less likely name now a days. (my name BTW.) :teeth:

I think I saw the name once when I was scrolling through the thread. I really like it paired with Grace, very pretty. :goodvibes

What I don't get is the strange spellings:

Melyssa - cousin
J'Lyn - DD playmate
Andrick - Parents who combined their last names
Kevyn - Friends Kid
Tristine - Friends Kid
Tevyn - DD Playmate
Ostin, Ahstin - Pronounced Austin - In our baseball league
Jawn - DD's K'Garten class ( oh my)
Karon - Pronounced Kuh Ron
Ora - Former co-worker

Jashua - this guy worked for me, when I was doing his new hire paperwork he explained that his name was Joshua and on his Birth Certificate paperwork the "o" looked like an "a" so his BC has the "A", his mother didn't catch it until he was older and never corrected it

Years ago I babysat a "Season and Reason"

I have a cousin whose middle name is "TwinkleBell" yes, she was a 60's child! :teeth:

I think the worst was those poor "Month" kids :confused3

Ok ready for a doozy???? My moms name is WALBURGA pronounced WALL- BURGA... I guess its a name in the bible.. she was a very strict (german) mother.
She wanted to name me Heidi but thank god my Father stepped in and I was named Kathleen..
We also have a family name which I like alot and thats Everett... most of the
boys in my family have this name as a middle name.

We are having a hard time naming this baby due in June. I really like Kaleb, DH said it sounds like something that goes next to califlower in the veggie section. I want it spelled with a K, b/c DH and DBIL were named with K's b/c of their dad. We named our first son after DH, so his name starts with a K as well. If this one was a girl I really liked Keegan and Kaelynn.

After reading all these pages I haven't seen what I named our son. Kendal.

Maybe because Kendal isn't that odd. Oh wait, edited to add, they use it for a girl more now.

MrsKreamer, I like Kaleb, but I think you DH is right. It does sound like a vegtable! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I meet a women this weekend. It was at a birthday party for a 5 year old. This women has twin girls. She called them Lauren and Taylor. She calls them Lord n talyor, like the store. Aparently she likes to shop. :rotfl:
