Interesting Account from Bin Laden Compound Raid

I'm also thinking that if they are married she was willing to be his shield. I know I would take a bullet for my husband and I'm sure many other wives would as well. This report is not surprising and it's all about the spin.

No, I would not willingly let my husband use me as a shield. I will defend my husband, but I would not let a cowardly scumbag use me and a real man would be taking the bullet for his wife if need be.

I am 100 % sure that my husband would jump in front of a bullet for me...and if need be I would do the same for him, but it wouldn't be needed since he would never let or want me doing that.

I don't know. I've already received infractions/points for stating my opinion so I'm trying to stay mum about this but IMHO it's no more an act of cowardliness as it is to shoot the woman being used as a shield. I'm not saying she was shot just expressing my view. I just find all of it gross.

I find you gross.

Yes, I would take a bullet for my husband, but he would NOT let me do that.

Bin Laden was always a coward. He would never have deliberately taken a bullet for his wives.

OP here - I'm actually not sure why I was surprised when I read that story (I know confusing). I guess I just had this mental picture in my head that the women would run for cover or hide as they do in many of our military campaigns, etc. (ask any soldier on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan). Yes I know some women and even children pick up a gun and shoot our direction - it just seemed odd to me.

If he was going to go down in a fight he sure came out looking like a huge coward (and the fact that he is apparently sooooo smart) when using a human shield just didn't make sense to me.

Regardless of who she was...if you lay down with dogs, you'll get fleas. I still say guilty by association.

I don't know about that. The women over there are treated so poorly that she probably had little choice in the matter. I don't know how many women actually get to choose their husbands, much less who their husbands associate with.

I'm sure if there was any way around killing a by-stander, she would still be alive. These SEALS are highly trained - and I thank God for them and what they do for Freedom's sake.

I am a little surprised OBL cowered behind a woman. I guess I thought that when the time came, he'd want to be a martyr and take out as many people as he could. This confirms what I expected - he was a coward and was not willing to do half of what he asked his followers to do. This includes strapping a bomb to himself or living in a cave, unlike what he expected followers to do.
That is the epitome of cowardice.

Since you think these Navy Seals that put their lives on the line for this country are "cowards" maybe you won't mind if they escort you to the border? By all means, we would hate for your freedom to be protected by people you view to be cowards.

I have typed three sentences and keep deleting. I cannot express how angry your views make me. These men are heroes, as are all of our military men and women. And for you to even so much as hint at the word "coward" when refering to any one of them is beyond appalling.

And what spin? In that country, they strap bombs to women and send them into grocery stores. You think that Bin Laden is going to protect a woman over himself?! Please ....

Amen!! Most men would protect their women and put themselves in harm's way and that's the difference. If that report is correct and he grabbed her and put her in front of him to protect him, then he is a coward for sure!

Agreed. The men that I know would protect a woman over themselves.

To the bolded part....REALLY?!?!

This is exactly what I have thought with nearly ALL of that PP's posts. I don't have a problem with people with differing opinions, but she posts some pretty outrageous ideas, SO, I can only think that it is a baiting tactic.
ETA: I don't particularly care who the woman was, any man who would use ANY woman as a human shield (or anyone for that matter), is a COWARD, no matter how you try to spin it. I can't think of a SINGLE man in my life who would not place themselves in front of a bullet for myself or DD, let alone use one of us as a human shield.

I almost wonder whether that poster and another one that comes to my mind who often makes outrageous posts might be the same one now that you mention it (there seems to be a mini epidemic of it lately). :scratchin

If you can't stand behind our troops, then please, stand in front of them.

You said it more eloquently and succinctly that I was about to.:thumbsup2

And one more :worship:

The bravery of the Navy Seals who carried out this mission along with the men and women who face danger every day to keep us safe completely overwhelms me.

Referring to the Navy Seals as acting cowardly...REALLY!!! Let's not forget freedom is not free. Our freedom is paid for every day of our lives by our BRAVE servicemen and women....sometimes with their own lives. Yes sadly, even your freedom.

I was reading an article where it cited John Brennan (Presidents top counterterrorism adviros) as stating that when the seals entered the room where Bin Laden was hiding that "bin Laden used a woman as a human shield and returned fire. The SEALs killed bin Laden with a bullet to the head."

I guess I shouldn't be surprised but this did surprise me. :confused3

Thoughts?

Actually, this is a tactic they have used for years. Think about how in the beginning of the war they used to hide in towns filled with women and children. This was done specifically because they know how the US feels about killing innocent women and children. I am not surprised at all that he pulled a woman in front of him. Kudos to our very well trained soldiers who were able to shoot him anyways and not kill the woman in front of him.

Did people see the photo of Obama and his staff inside the situation room receiving updates of the mission? http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2011/05/03/world/sub-03intel/sub-03intel-popup.jpg

I am still so in awe of the Navy Seals. They are kick a@@ :thumbsup2

That shot reminded me a little bit of a scene in Patriot Games where Harrison Ford's character is in a "situation room" and they are watching imagery of soldiers actively taking down a terrorist training camp.

As a Navy brat growing up - Kudos to the Navy Seals!!!!
