Yesterday, I got a new notebook to replace my old one that wasn't working to well (Thank you lemon law) :goodvibes Like a good member of the wired world, I ran Windows Update and such to get the latest updates.

I am not used to running XP: Media Center Edition, but I was told it was basicly XP Pro with a few little things changed. My question is, why is it in XP:MCE that I get a message with ""Click to run an activex control on this page" when I visit some sites?

Is this a feature of Media Center, and if so, how do I turn it off? It really stops some sites from working right.

It is on all PCS with IE, and media center is not like PRO at all. If you look at it from my point of view being a developer. If you are just using it to surf the web, email, and reporting you will be ok. If you want to us IIS or do programming with Visual Studio you can, but you can't develop ASP applications. The person you talked to should have been able to really tell you the difference or found out what your needs where to make sure it is ok. You can shut off IE asking for Active X by make some adjustments to Tools|Internet Options. I am not sure because I leave mine on. I would if I where you as well. This feature stops alot the Trojen programs that are out there which feed on Active X. With leaving this on you can turn the active x control for the websites that you need, but if you are not sure about a website you can turn it off until they can be trusted.
