Interacting with the characters as grown-ups?

I love meeting characters in full costume because they don't talk, but I always feel so awkward talking to face characters because I have no idea what to say! On my last trip I saw Flynn and Rapunzel and wanted to talk to them but ended up not doing it. I remember when I was a kid it was easy because they start conversations with you, but as an adult I don't know how to do it. What do you guys say? Do you have like a line that works with them? Can you talk to them normal or do you only talk about things related to the movies? Any of you have a memorable conversation with face characters?

I am totally understanding how you feel! I too LOVE the characters and without sounding too silly I believe Disney is a place to enjoy and participate if you want too! I often start my conversations with a character when they are one of my fav's and I just say that; some are more interactive ad don't mind that I am not a child and they just go along! As well I must say a photopass guy told me once that he stopped aging at 6! He said its just a number and that's why he likes it here at Disney! enjoy yourself!

Just take a deep breath and let your inner child out. If you ask the face character anything about their character or storyline they will jump right into the conversation. I have asked Mary Poppins "Just how do you say Supercalifrag... backward?" And she promptly responded. I aksed Cinderella if Gus and the other mice went with her to live in the castle. My son always asks Snow White how Grumpy is doing.

It's a lot of fun. Just think of some questions before you go or before its your turn to meet the character.

Not to sound too corny, but go with what is in your heart.

My first experience with a face character was with Aurora in 2009. I actually told her that I was nervous meeting her and she really went all out with me. She taught me the proper way for a "Prince" to greet a Princess, the proper way to take the arm of a Princess, and the proper way to stand for photos with a Princess. I think she spent more time with me than the children in front and behind me. I tell Aladdin that he is my hero every time I meet him, and he always tells me that I can join him on his next adventure. I usually tell Tinker Bell that she inspired me to be a tinker (Engineer), and she just eats that up.

When I go to any other face character, I always go with what is in my heart at that moment. That usually gives them enough to start with. My only exception is when I meet Cinderella. I always blank out and go speechless when I meet her. That is the 5 year old boy, who absolutely loves Cinderella, in me taking hold.

Regardless of what you say, the face character will make it a fantastic experience.

Thanks guys, I thought I was the only one that didn't know how to talk to them This are all good ideas, I'm gonna try them on my next trip and build up courage and talk to Flynn and Rapunzel Hopefully they are still there.

You have to go up to them and say "Hi! I'm *insert name here*. I love your story!" they call their movies their 'stories' and then they'll get that you're fun and you want the whole character experience!

Ariel
-What country do you and Eric come from?

Rapunzel
-Who is your favorite artist?

and I really want to get Mary Poppins to say 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' backwards for me!

I loved talking to the face characters! They're just so great at being with adults as well as children!

I told Mary Poppins that my mom's name was Mary too and I asked Pocahantas where Meeko and Flit were. Unfortunately, those were the only face characters I was able to meet on my last trip, but it was great nonetheless!

Just htink of them as real people and ask what you have questions about. I have alwys wondered what countries the princess are from or some of their daily habits. Also talk to them about their daily routine or other characters. They love that kind of stuff and get right into character.

Trust me I feel so akward being an adult that fawns over characters like the kids do and I have tons of akward "i might be older then you and I know your not realy but please take a picture standing akwardly next to me" pictures.

Once I started asking them questions about the movies, it got alot better and alot more fun.

I think I said something along the lines of, "Pluto, you're my favorite" (Of course I felt like a big nerd, but I didn't care). What I didn't expect was Goofy, who was also in the picture. He was all over me! Wanted to slow dance, kissed my hand, etc. Who knew he was such a ladies man?

Goofy (not being a face character though) is one of the most interactive characters I know of. Aside from maybe Chip and Dale (my all time faves). Last time we were at a character breakfast in Disneyland he took my fiancee's hand and kissed it and then looked at me, as if to say nah nah nah nah nah nah LOL!

On topic though I am loving this thread. Maybe I will have to try some of these suggestions too. It has always been awkward for us meeting face characters.

I think the characters have fun interacting with adults. On our last trip I tried to take a picture without lilo just with stitch and lilo wouldn't let me. So my husband said there is always photoshop lol and she chased behind him shaking her head no it was funny. I'm sure they have fun with it. Considering they mostly pose with little ones I think they have more fun being in char with adults and older kids who get it.

I too am glad this question was posted! I never know what to say, so I've only ever waited in line to meet Ariel... who is my fav! I just told her how I loved her....and she started asking me if my arms were tired from swimming all the way from home... a very fun memory!!!

I am excited for my trip coming up and I know we will be meeting a lot of face characters. I didn't even think to try to interact with them on the previous trip, so this time I am ready for it.

My little ones probably won't get it, but I am fully expecting my DW to tell me to stop

Here's the plan for the characters that we know we will be meeting:
Cinderella - ask something about the mice or her fairy godmother
Ariel - ask her about the dinglehopper (fork) and ask her what something else is (we will see her while eating)
Aurora - planning on mentioning how we sewed something
Snow White - I really want to offer her an apple but I dunno if I will chicken out about it
Belle - Something about a book
Tinkerbell - talk about building something for the kids
Vidia - ask her to teach you how to do something (last trip my DD didn't want to smile so Tink told Vidia to teach DD how to smile and it was hilarious)
Rosetta - since we will be seeing her during the F&G festival at Epcot we will make sure to mention the flowers that are there and ask which one she had the most fun creating
Terence - just going to ask for more pixie dust
Lilo - going to ask for Hula lessons
Stitch - I'm going to tell him that DW's badness level is a bit high today

Those are the characters I KNOW we will be seeing. I am hoping to get to see Jafar and even though I know he probably can't talk, I will tell him how he's my favorite and ask if I can set him free from his itty bitty living space
