Inter Racial Couples

Well now here is the first example of a "mixed marriage" I have seen on this thread.

My goodness woman, can't you see the obvious differences and problems this will cause? ;) :teeth:

*sigh* I guess love truly is blind.....
(But then again, maybe he will come around)

I know, I'm hoping to convert him. :goodvibes

I showed this thread to my husband and he had this to say: His grandfather was a active member of the Ku Klux Klan. Always marching and protesting. Husband says to tell you this: When it comes down to it, we're all pink on the inside.
We really don't mind interracial couples. The couple 3 houses down from us are interracial. We chat with them. Our kids play with theirs. No biggie. Don't let the ignorant folks get to you.

True love is so rare these days that to judge a couple based on their external appearances is just plain stupid. The attraction between two people is a mysterious thing that goes way beyond appearance. I don't understand why some members of the general public don't get that. Unless, of course, they are jealous of the fact that two people are genuinely in love.

If you asked me to list the interracial couples that I know, I would have a hard time coming up with any. And the funny thing is that I've met both dizneenut and helenabear's spouses. I guess they are just "people" to me. Maybe someday that will be the case with more of the world.

Hugs to the OP and to all interracial couples. Hang on to your love for each other and try to ignore the idiots out there.

I'm sorry that there are still ignorant people in this world.
My inlaws are French-Canadian. My dh was born here and is a citizen. I swear his parents were bull because he married an Irish girl. I might as well been a Martian to them. My point is that people are busy bodies and have nothing better to do than judge others. Don't let them bother you...small minds are not worth worrying about.

you think get stared at try being burnt. i am burnt over 80% of my body and when i go to disney world it seems like no one has ever seen a burnt person.lol my kids (grown up) have always gotten upset with people for staring but it really doesn't bother me because people are just curiious. as far as the balck/white thing my dd was dating a black guy for 2 years it was hell for us because he was so abusive to her, she was going to college(which we paid for), working and he did nothing. now she is married and has twins babies and everything is. she says she is so embarrasssed that she did that. it has nothing to do with race tho, he came from a bad family.

I wouldn't worry. I'm white and my DH is West Indiana from Trinidad. Of course it shocked the heck out of my family when we got married almost four years ago. We're happy and that's all that matters. If the family or whomever else can't get over it, it's their problem. My sister, in fact, wants us to adopt a child from a different country so that we'll be totally disversified! lol

I know inter-racial couples, as well as inter-racial people. I have no problem with them, and I can't understand why some people do. But hang in there, and don't let anything anyone says bother you. A quote comes to mind, but I can't remember who it's from, and I'm not quite sure if it's worded right, but it seems to fit. "Great minds talk about ideas, average minds talk about events, small minds talk about people." ... something to that effect at least.

Good luck! :grouphug:

The way I look at it is this. If you cut us all open, we look exactly the same. Two lungs, one liver, one heart, one spleen, one stomach, and red blood. And besides, I have always thought that children of an interracial couple are always so beautiful. They look exotic and unique and have the most beautiful skin tone. I think Tiger Woods is probably one of the best looking men I have ever seen. Those eyes....

When I was younger, living at home in a small white only town, & under my parents influence, I could see I was starting to "learn" the racist thoughts of past generations.

It wasn't until I went to college, that I was even exposed to anyone that wasn't white. :sad2: I'm almost 42 now. Been out of their home 20 yrs. And I've learned on my own that I've come to accept almost any relationship or person, no matter the race, sex, age........ (I'm not perfect, I still have problems with people for other reasons though....like stupidity. lol)

I'm proud of myself. :goodvibes

And I still CRINGE when my mom makes a comment about someones race. I try to remember that it was probably the way they were brought up to think. Things have changed, SLOWLY, but not enough.

ETA: I just remembered a good example of my upbringing. When DH & I decided to get married, I STRESSED & STRESSED about how to tell my parents that we were going to get married in his Baptist church, & not our Catholic church. :rotfl2: My parents don't even GO to church. THAT's how bad my town was. My mother was so worried about telling my grandfather. :sad2: (My DH is white like me. Can you imagine their reaction if he had been anything else?)

I'm sorry if anyone has to hear any horrible comments like that.

I'm white. DH is Hispanic. We have 3 kids that get nice comments all the time. The only issue I ever had was with my mom because she wanted me to marry someone from my race. Ironically years later, my DH is her favourite person in the world and when she calls, she usually wants to talk to him and not me. She learned a wonderful lesson that you have to get to know someone before judging them. I just wish everyone could do that.
