Intensity of Harry Potter rides...

We are usually Disney folks but are hitting US/IOA for a day on our next vacation. I'm traveling with my entire family, including my parents who are older (70's).

I was just wondering how intense the Harry Potter rides are (FJ, Gringotts) and the Mummy ride. My parents can handle rides like Flight of Passage, Big Thunder, Tower of Terror at Disney, but Expedition Everest was a bit much for them (they went on it, but didn't like it).

I tried to YouTube the rides, but being dark/3D, it's hard to tell how intense they are.

Thanks in advance!

My son-in-law gets motion sickness, and I am a bit concerned about him and FJ, which swings you around a bit on an arm, a swooping or flying motion. I keep forgetting to ask DD if he has any medication he can bring for it.

I think Gringotts will probably be OK, and Mummy reminds me a lot of Space Mountain.

Of all the rides you mention, Forbidden Journey gives me the worst motion-sickness issues. I have to close my eyes during portions of it when the scenery is zipping by faster than I can comfortably handle.

I would say Mummy is probably the most intense as far as speed and jerks. It is probably on par with Expedition Everest IMO. So they may not like that one.

Gringotts has some speed, but isn't jerky at all and has a lot of stopping in front of screens and is more involved in the story than just a ride. If they like big thunder, they'll be perfectly fine on Gringott's

Forbidden Journey is definitely the worst for motion sickness. It doesn't go fast but you go between regular scenery and screens that are moving and the seats tilt in every direction including backwards (you do not go upside down though).

OP meclizine can be bought over the counter and works great for motion sickness for a lot of people (including myself).

My 70-year old dad has a bad back and motion sickness and he loved Gringotts. I get motion sickness and take meclizine each day on a Uni vacation. Forbidden Journey is a tough ride for me to handle twice in a day when on meds. It is so cool though. That is why I try to do it at least once.

We are in our late 60's and early 70's and we love Gringotts. The queue is amazing and the ride was fine for us. However,, FJ at IOA made me dizzy with the jerking around, feeling like I was going to tip over backward, and the constant very fast moving screens. I haven't ridden it since. However, we all have different levels of discomfort,, so? The Mummy was a lot of fun for us. My husband has a bad back but tolerated all of them fine. Have fun:)

Thank you all so much, this has been very helpful! I think my dad might be ok on all of them, but FJ and the Mummy may be too much for my mom. I’ll have her do Gringotts first, then she can decide.
