Does anyone know of an alternative to the insurance that is made available to us when we receive our confirmation of points?
It seems to me, that the insurance offered is not a very good value. If it's the only one and I want insurance, then I guess I have no choice but to buy it. I was hoping for another option.

I recently read in a travel book that you can buy travel insurance through any insurance company/broker. It even gave you tele #'s -- I believe it was Fodor's Florida or Bahama's book. It also said that is the smart way to buy the insurance--it is also supposed to be less expensive. LOL

The problem with other types of insurance is going to be assigning a value to your points. When you make a reservation at a regular resort and put down a $200 deposit and you lose it when you cancel, your claim is easy to figure out - $200. But how would they determine the value of points lost? DVC sells this insurance that specifically deals with this issue, I don't know how other insurance companies would address it. Make sure you get the specifics before buying insurance. Also be careful of pre-existing condition clauses. Many people want to buy insurance because they know they or a family member has a medical condition. If the condition existed on the day you bought the coverage, it may not be a covered claim. They will ask for a medical statement from your doctor.

Thanks, your responses will be helpful in determining my decision. If I find something of real value Iwill post it here.
