I have an ECV reserved from an off-site company. Do I need to worry about someone damaging it if I leave it for a couple of hours while we eat, etc? I don't need it all the time, so it would be nice to be able to park it when I feel like walking. Are there places to park them that are out of the way? Where would I find insurance in case someone messes with it. -- Like kids fooling around, etc.

I spoke recently to the owner of one of the ECV rental companies. He does make insurance an option. However, he said there has never been one of his ECVs stolen and basically the only way you might damage it is by running it off curbs several times or smashing the handlebars into something at high speed.

He said they don't push the insurance, but it is available if someone wants it.

Just be sure to remove the key when you park it.

One year, I was rear-ended by an ECV in the elevator at the car stunt show.

We were being loaded two deep. I was first in, riding my powerchair. The ECV loaded behind me didn't stop. I was pushed forward towards the legs of people stood at the back of the elevator.

I didn't hit them, and no damage was done to my chair, but potentially, the ECV rider could have been facing an expensive claim for damages.
