Insurance issue (Medco) Vent/Suggestions (long)

First, I called my doctor's office today and was told they had nothing on file from Medco requesting anything. I requested they place notes on our file stating we have to use mail order and to always supply 90 day prescripts, in case I am ever stupid enough to forget again. :headache:

And I called Medco and spoke to a supervisor.
I told my story as briefly as possible. And he agreed. :worship: :sunny:
He is crediting my account $100. I am being charged just what the meds would have cost me had I had them filled at a local pharmacy (for one month). :worship:
He apologized and said he would be upset too.
He also said I should call my doctor back and have a 90 prescript written. I will be sure to!

I had written a nasty gram to Medco. Now I am going to turn it the other way around and thank them for reconsidering. He could have just as easily said so sad too bad. And honestly, that was what I was expecting.

Glad that is behind me! :dance3:
Who would ever think something so simple could be such a :headache: ?
But hopefully I saved others here a Medco headache. :flower3:
Thanks for listening!

Just want to let you know I share your frustration!

Our story...DH mailed his rx's in on a Saturday...he always tries to get them in about 2 weeks ahead of time. Got a shipment notice 10 days later (on a Wed) that they were processed and shipped. Should receive by Saturday. Nothing comes. Checks tracking on Monday and says it is delayed due to weather. Calls Tuesday and still delayed. At this point he is on his last few cc's of insulin (in his pump) and needs insulin THAT NIGHT. Gets home from work and no delivery....so calls doctor who calls in an rx for 1 bottle of insulin to tide him over until the shipment arrives. I go to the pharmacy and they refuse to fill prescription because we have mail order (the computer rejects it). I have them call Medco and again they refuse to approve the prescription. I can pay $90 OOP for it but it won't go through insurance. I was LIVID. Yes, weather can't be helped, but he NEEDS the rx. I paid it and it took us 2 months to get the money back from MEDCo adn then they would only give us the difference between the full price and $30 copay. You would think 2 weeks is PLENTY of time to get a refill in.

That was part of my frustration.
In this instance for me, I do not know if Medco did not contact the doctor's office. Or if the doctor's office just let it slip through the cracks.
But it really is too bad Medco did not let me know. I could have contacted the doctor's office. Medco has my address, e-mail address and cell number.
That being said they probably could have said nothing and just filled one month and sent the order with a nasty note. Even that would have been fine. Slap my hands.
When I mailed in my prescriptions I had nearly a month on hand. Like you, I thought that plenty of time, as Medco always brags they get meds to patients in 8 days. But now I wonder if that is 8 business days, not counting weekends, or 8 days.
I mailed in my order January 6, and rec'd it today, and that was after me calling almost a week ago and it being released and "expedited".
But either way, another Medco lesson learned for me.
What I really don't like is being at their mercy with no recourse. It's not like we can go anywhere and get meds -- unless we want to pay full price.
