Insults in Disney animated movies

I have noticed this, not that I'm that bothered by it. Jafar or somebody says "idiot" in maybe one of the Aladdin movies...or maybe it's from Toy Story...frankly, I don't remember, but DS did say it once, and I told him it wasn't nice. He said "but "soandso" said it." I said, "well, you don't." End of story. So I know someone says it, I just don't remember who, and I used it to tell my son it wasn't nice. No biggie.

Hey, most Disney movies don't have moms...oh the horror. ;)

Good God, how did my brother's and I ever make it to adulthood as responsible, caring, loving people when our parents let us watch Disney movies with the words "stupid" and "idiot" in them?

I think parents today need to think back to their own childhoods and think about all the "horrible" things they were exposed to, then chill the heck out!

I don't live too far away from Zion, IL where those two little girls were stabbed to death. Worry about stuff like that, not if Scar tells a bunch of hyenias idiots!

It is funny how much you find when you look closely at the movies...

Nothing mentioned before affected my family..
but my adorable 2 year old went around telling everyone to "Shut up" after we watched Brother Bear.... LOL

"SHUT up.." No you shut up".....

I was not overjoyed at first but since we don't usually say that to each other she soon stopped...

These words are not enough to overshadow the good messsages, and good fun of the Disney movies!!!

( I hear much worse at the local malls now...no one seems to care that kids are around when they curse....)

Another line in Lion King is when one of the hyenas says stupid, and then it's followed up with "Ixnay on the upidstay!" :rotfl:

The worst thing DS ever picked up from a Disney movie was "You uncultured swine!" from Toy Story. He said it to one of my friends. :earseek: But after I apologized to her I told her he had no idea what it meant. He was probably only about 4 or 5.

One of his classmates liked to stick his hand in your face and say "Silence!" like Jafar. I found that to be EXTREMELY offensive. The same kid had learned something else (which I am really sorry I can't rememebr now) and was saying it at a birthday party. I remember asking him to repeat it because I wasn't sure I heard him correctly. When I asked him where he learned it I think he said from Pocahontas. A mom sitting near me confirmed it. I have never seen the movie so that's probably why I can't remember what it was.

That kid was one of the most obnoxious children I have ever known. His mother thought Rugrats was the most offensive thing she had ever seen, so she ONLY allowed him to watch Disney movies. Great. If my child was picking up behaviors like the ones HER child was picking up I think he would be locked in his room with NO television. He was very aggressive and the other kids avoided him. There were other issues with that kid, too, but I suspect none of them were caused exclusively by the viewing of Disney films!! Maybe having a crazy woman for a mother was part of it?

A child isn't a product of one environmental component. If you teach your child that some things aren't nice to say then there really isn't a problem. I think Disney movies are great - my DS9 watches them and I prefer them to the other crap he likes to watch! He is fond of Three Stooges which I HATE. But at least he doesn't act out anything he sees them do!! :rotfl:
