Installing Car Door Speakers

Does anyone on here have any experience with installing car door speakers or have any advice?

I drive a 2002 Nissan Maxima and I have one functioning speaker, and a lot of the time I can't hear what I am listening to...so it's pretty much time to just bite the bullet and install some new ones.

I am just going to do the speakers on the front doors. I'm going to grab some speakers at Best Buy and probably install them on Thursday.

From what I have seen on the internet, it seems easy enough to DIY. It looks like I will just have to pop off the panel on the door and then screw the old one out and attach the wires to the new one and then screw the new one in and pop the door panel back on. Am I correct?

Anyone who has ever done this yourself have any advice or tips? I know I can get it installed professionally but I am pretty confident that I'm smart enough to figure it out on my own, I'm just looking for advice and tips, problems I might run into etc

I just replaced the component speakers in my Jeep. I decided to have my professionally installed (for a variety of reasons!) but I did a lot of research and got info from www.crutchfield.com. They are very reasonably priced and they have chat/phone support on how to replace the speakers in your particular car. I did a chat with a guys and he was VERY knowledgeable on the subject.

Thanks for the information :) I'm trying to learn as much as I can...I'm going to do it on Thursday because I have all day just incase, but I'm hoping it's less than that...

As long as you are just replacing the existing ones it should be super easy. Measure the size of the old ones, go to walmart get same size. Should just pop out after removing screws and just screw in new ones. As long as they are the same exact size should be super easy. Walmart will carry basically the same normal brands as best buy...i never felt best buy was the best buy for anything i have ever needed to buy and i highly doubt you want to install super expensive or high end speakers.

Yep, it is that simple! My husband installed nicer speakers in his 2005 Subaru Legacy without any extra knowledge and he said it was easy. He also installed Dynamat (spelling?) at the same time in the door panels while he was at it...it is a sticky sheet of stuff that absorbs extra noise so it cuts down on road noise/vibration and it made a huge difference!

You've probably already done this but Youtube has videos on how to fix or replace just about anything. And if not there, then try searching the Nissan Maxima forums

Thanks for the tips everyone; I did it this morning and it turned out great! The first side took me about 3 hours to figure everything out but the second side took about 20 minutes once I had figured it all out. I had trouble with figuring out the wiring (which I later realized was extremely easy, I just have no experience with wiring). Also, the setup for the screws wasn't the same as my old speaker so the speakers are both only screwed into one spot but I threw some tape on for good measure...probably not the best way to do it but this car has a lot of miles on it so I'm not sure how long it is going to last anyways.

The $40 speakers I bought are a HUUUUGE improvement over the stock ones that came with the car. They sound great! I actually spent a good hour today just wasting gas and driving around listening to music and being proud of myself for figuring out how to do it on my own :)
