are your counters in your kitchen???

I had a friend who did not keep much on her counters. Her kitchen was always perfect. In our house at that time, we did not have a whole ton of storage, so stuff was always on the counters. I always envied her.

Fast Forward to our house today. We have plenty of storage. I now only keep my canisters for flour and sugar, knives in a block, and my paper towel holder on my counter. I love not having any clutter on my counter. It makes me feel like I have a ton of counter space and also that my kitchen is very neat.

So, how about my other DIS neat freaks????

Neat freak wannabe here. My counters are so cluttered...as are my dresser tops, the computer desk, etc. Hoping to join you one day in tidiness...or just not having things totally in the way!

With everything "put away", I have a microwave, toaster oven, cannisters (3), fruit bowl, utensil crock, and my kitchen aid mixer all sitting on my counter. Nearly every linear foot has something "stored" on it. I need more cabinets. :bitelip:

I can't stand things on the counter. I have a huge kitchen with lots of counter space but the only thing on the counter is the coffee maker and the toaster. I just don't like the clutter, I am very "Monk" like :rotfl2:

Oh, I *so* wish I had clutter-free counters! Especially since in the house we just bought, you can see the kitchen the second you walk in the front door.

But I've found that it doesn't matter how many cabinets and drawers I have, my counters will always be cluttered. In one of the houses my h built us, I had *tons* of storage space and about 25 linear feet of counterspace. Yep, you guessed it, I filled up the cabinets *and* the counters! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

On the back counter I have the toaster oven, blender and kitchen aid mixer. On the counter by the sink is the glass cutting board and coffee maker. On the island counter top is an african vase and a tart warmer. Not cluttered, but I wish I could put a couple more things away.

The only things on my counter are appliances such as the toaster, mixer and can opener, and a cutting board. I also have two Kitchen Elves. I hate clutter. Things have a place and they should be in their place unless I am using them. Unfortunately, DD doesn't always hold to this idea.

I think I am the Clutter Queen :teeth: . I have two counters in my little kitchen--one is 3 ft long and in between my sink and stove. I keep my coffee maker and knives and just a little bit of clutter there. The other is 4 ft long. I clean it once a week. By the time the week is over, the junk on that counter is piled high. I just don't understand where it comes from. Most of it is mail and DD's school papers, I think. It drives DH crazy though  .

My planning desk is covered with all sorts of junk--the main counters only have the toaster, mixer, food scale, and recycling bag on them. I really like them open and uncluttered.

I've got a fair amount of counter space. Right now--a cordless phone, toaster, blender, popcorn maker, bread machine, stand mixer (covered and set way back into corner) candle warmer, canisters, knife block, daddy with utensils, wine bottle opener (needs to be put away), recipe book holder/protector, paper towel holder, treats jar with DH's candy, napkin holder, sal & pepper shakers, basket with DS's meds.

Also my pocketbook and today's mail only because I haven't put them away yet. And my laptop, because I'm at the breakfast bar using it.

I'm a neat freak when it comes to my kitchen....it's clutter free, always in order, & I detest dirty dishes in the sink. If a dish is dirty, I tell DH to rinse it & put it in the dishwasher....that's where dirty dishes go.

My kitchen looks like one of the kitchens in a model home or a magazine...but the master bedroom, that's a whole different story :rolleyes1 (and I have not see the thread about master bedrooms...I'll have to look for it).

Just toaster and coffee pot on my counter right now. Nothing on my island. I guess I just don't do much in my kitchen right now.

I keep a bunch of stuff out - like the toaster, the cookbooks I use regularly and some knick knacks, but I keep it pretty clear otherwise. I have a long breakfast bar that is clear unless someone is currently working on a project there. I do have one area that I use as a planning desk (I stole someone else's term - I like that) and it can get pretty cluttered, but I keep it contained to that space.

Clutter Queen.. New name. Yep, that would be me too! :rotfl2:
I can't seem to keep anything put away.... The counter collects everything. Even when I try really hard, it still collects stuff :)
Wish I could do better.

That is how my old kitchen was. With my new house, I have lots of cupboards (maybe not that many...but a vast improvement from my old house). I actually have 1 cupboard that I do not have much in. I am afraid to make it full--then things will find their way to the counter. I have been doing a really good job about throwing things (usually small appliances and Tupperware with no lids) out that was do not use that often--hence keeping my 1 cupboard unused. We also have a HUGE pantry whaere I can store my toaster and Large mixer. That really helped with getting stuff off the counter.

Gosh the more I read this, I am kind of insane...I mean who has a cupboard free in their kitchen???? Really....

My kitchen counters are super-neat and not cluttered at all. The only stuff I keep on them regularly are the paper towel holder, bowl of fruit, and toaster. THat is the ONE part of my house that is consistently neat. It's amazing how nice and clean the kitchen looks when the counters aren't cluttered. (our master bedroom on the other hand is a DISASTER area....yikes! lol)

I thought that's why we have multiple cabinets with solid door fronts??? When you get too much crap on the counters, just shove the stuff in the cabinets! Right? :confused3
