Deb in IA's Today in History today marked the anniversary of Harvard and comments about how beautiful the campus is (Indeed it is!). While I'm sure it's been visited before, here is the question it inspired:

In you opinion what are the most beautiful college campuses?

Like many, I am partial to my alma mater, but even those that didn't attend there might agree that the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington is incredibly beautiful! (So that's my vote). Most of its buildings are made of beautiful Indiana Limestone set in rolling hills, beautiful trees and the mighty Jordan River.

So what's your vote.

OK, I'm partial to my alma mater, too. I went to Wells College, a women's college on Lake Cayuga--the largest of the Finger Lakes in New York. It was just an idyllic setting. Tons of trees, by which the beginning of October had a million different shades of fall colors. And winter on the lake--tons of snow! Lots of Gothic and Victorian stone and wood architecture, and little footbridges with streams. Many nooks and crannies. It was a beautiful place to spend four years.

I think that Michigan State University's campus is beautiful with the old buildings and the red cedar river going through the campus.

Where I work.. www.eastern.edu has some wonderfuly idyllic settings... there is a a gorgeous working water wheel/water fall next to an old stone cottage. There is old mansion style buildings with a grand stairway. It is gorgeous with parks, and walking trails, and streams... its is breathtaking.

I went to Furman University ( www.furman.edu ) in Greenville, SC, my freshman year, and it was gorgeous! I guess it ought to be for the price of tuition. My dad breathed a huge sigh of relief when I chose to transfer to our state university. :teeth:

I think University of Richmond, University of Georgia, and University of Utah all have very pretty campuses.

I vote for Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. One time it was voted the safest campus. I'll bet no one here's ever heard of it. It's also, IMHO, the prettiest.

I've heard of it (because I did a huge amount of research about what college I wanted to go to after I finished High School from my freshman year on.) I don't know much about it, though.

My brother graduated from Anna Maria College last year.
It has one of the best criminal justice programs in the country!

I agree it's a beautiful campus. There are so many beautiful campuses here in New England.
One of my favorites is Salve Regina in Newport. The dorms are converted mansions :)
My college has a gorgeous campus - Stonehill College in No.Easton, Ma.

Being from the south, I don't know anything about pretty campuses (although the university campuses are still more attractive than the surrounding cities tend to be). I try to visit major campuses any time I visit a new city, but I've never been to the northeast. Is anyone else out there a campus tourist?

I have to vote for the college I graduated from. Berry College in Rome Georgia has a beautiful campus. The school owns approximately 26,000 acres of land and it is wonderfully maintained.

I'm partial to my alma mater, the University of Georgia, with its historic buildings and gardens. I also love Chapel Hill, and I'm crazy about Appalachian State, the school my son plans to attend next year. The campus smells like a Christmas tree farm, and there's something about those mountains with a running stream through the middle of campus!

I think Chapel Hill is really pretty too. I actually transferred from Furman to the University of Georgia. UGA has a very unusual campus--the north part of campus is really historic and gorgeous, but the south part is very "70's". I really do think the north part of UGA's campus is gorgeous. Here are some pics:

When I worked at Princeton I used to make any excuse I could on a beautiful fall day to walk around campus. I had a cool office too, in one of the older ivy-covered buildings. I loved walking through the library, going to the dorms, visiting other academic buildings. It was a great place to work.

Ok I'm also partial to my alma mater, Ohio University.
