Inspired by something C.Ann said on another post

Reagan Assassination Attempt - I was in 8th grade and someone came running into our class telling us about how Reagan was shot.

Challenger - Senior in HS. We had the day off from school and I was at work at the mall when someone came in the store and told us what happened.

OJ Car Chase - Home sick from work and saw it on TV.
OJ Verdict - Saw it at work. They had the TV on waiting for the verdict.

OK Bombing - At home that day when the news broke in with what happened.

Blizzard of '96 - I was in labor with my DD! I'll never forget that one! :earseek:

Princess Di - Woke up in the morning expecting to hear that Princess Di was ok, but heard she had died. Hearing that Mother Teresa died a few days later too.

9/11 - My daughter was getting ready for the Kindergarten bus, when my DH called and told me to turn on the news. I just stared at the TV and cried my eyes out.

Columbia - I was at a retreat when someone came up and whispered to me that the shuttle had gone down. We were debating as to how to announce the news.

Pope John Paul's death - I was driving home with the girls when they announced it on the radio. Even though we knew it was coming, we all cried.

I think that is all that I can remember at the moment.

I forgot the Pope's death. It wasn't that significant to me, but I think I was at the local fire department's fish fry. My dad is a volunteer fire fighter, so I volunteer at the fish fries. They had the news on TV in the kitchen, but I wasn't paying much attention to it. The only time I went in there was to bring the dirty dishes in because I was bussing the tables. I didn't find out that he died until the next morning so I am not sure if I was still at the fish fry or if I had just gotten home.

Mentioning the Pope's death reminded me of another:

May, 1981 - The Pope is shot. I was on a cruise ship sailing from Bermuda to Nassau. Back then, when you were out to sea, you really didn't know what was going on in the world. Each day they'd publish a little newsletter and slip it under your stateroom door. We didn't find out about the attempt on the Pope's life for two days! No way that happens in our current world of instant communication--even on a cruise ship.
