Inspired by Dixie Chicks...Do you care what your entertainers politics are?

Are you swayed by the opinions of entertainers?

  • Yes, I look to them for guidance and information

  • They have a right to give their opinions, but I give them no creedance.

  • They have no business using their celebrity status to speak about politics

  • Who cares?

Seriously, I read the Sean Penn and Dixie Chicks threads and I am begining to think that folks actually may look to entertainers for political guidance.

Sure they may have a "captive" audience (when in concert) but do you care on any level that may motivate you to change your opinions?

It drives me crazy that celebrities get involved in politics, since they have absolutely no training, experience or anything credible that makes them an expert in that area. They certainly have a right to their opinion, but the media should never interview celebrities about world events. And people like Barbara Streisand and Susan Sarandon (can't remember how to spell her name) should not be given any political clout just because they are famous. I'd rather see people that have worked in the real world have that kind of influence (it'll never happen, but I can hope...)

I dont care what celebrity opinions are. I make up my own mind about issues and wouldnt be swayed because Dixie Chricks, Sean Pean or anyone else has a different view. Although I do get tired of hearing about it just because they are famous and have a public platform for their views to be heard.

I don't care what the Dixie Chicks think.

More like the Baghdad Chicks.

I have simply just one word to say about that statement...

Ignorant

In the whole scheme of things I do not give the celebrities any more creedence than any other citizen.

Do you think Barbara Striesand has any ability to lure Republicans weakened from the sound of her voice into liberal thinking?

I think the whole fanfare over their opinions is ridiculous.

They have the right to express their opinion, just as anyone else does. What I don't understand is why people get so upset about it. I don't stop listening to a group's music, or stop watching an actor's movies, etc. just because they voiced their opinion and it differs from mine.

It doesn't bother me one bit what hollywood's opinion of things is.

They have as much right as anyone to say what they think. We've all been giving a mind to enable us to make our own decisions and our own opinions. Some people seem to not be able to do that without turning to someone famous for guidance as to what is in vogue. I am not one of those people.

Sure it gets annoying when the only things out of their mouths is poliitcal rhetoric (Barbra Streisand for example), but I just tune her out or change the channel. Simple enough.
And to be honest, if I were that famous and I felt that passionately about a subject or cause, I probably would do something similar.

Whatever happened to the bunch of celebrities that were going to leave the country if Bush beat Gore?
Remember - Martin Sheen isn't the president. He just plays one on TV.

I don't care about an entertainer's politics one way or another. Either they have the talent to entertain me or they do not. Who cares what they think.

Ignorant would imply that I do not know much about the subject I am speaking on, or I am ignoring the main point. This is not so, I called them the Baghdad Chicks because their anti-Bush statements reflect more on the average Iraqi than someone from Dixie.

Grrrrrrrrrrreat Mindy!

Referring to them as anything Baghdad implies that they have the ideals of Iraq which is ignorant. They are embarrassed of the president and frankly, so am I. That doesn't mean I am "Pro-Saddam" or anything else Iraq. I think Saddam is a ruthless and treacherous leader. I think Bush has put us into a predicament that could effect our standing as the leading super power.

You may not agree with the Chicks or their views on Bush but they have every right to say it and it DOES NOT make them remotely equivalent to Saddam or Iraq. In fact, your anger over them saying it places you closer. Saddam doesn't like anything negative said about him either.
