My daughter (6yo) leaves today for a mini sleep away cam ( 2 days) to try out leaving home and get her used to the idea. She is scheduled to go to a one week sleep away camp in August. I paid $175 for the 2 night camp and $285 for the week long camp. We are in VA. So how much do you pay where you are? Please state where you live. I am just curious because what I paid I thought was high until I saw the $6000 price tag on the other thread.:scared1:

Our prices vary greatly. We paid $80 for a 4 day overnight for 4H. We paid $225 for a 2 day overnight for leadership camp, $400 for a 3 day overnight for volleyball. We paid $280 for a 4 day-daycamp for soccer. We have done daycamps that cost $20 a day and some that cost $80. I think it just depends on what camps you chose to go to. We try to keep our kids well rounded and have them meet peers from all different walks of life. With 4 kids doing activities it can get expensive pretty quickly.

I think it depends on where you live. A Mon-Fri, 9-4 camp in NY can be anywhere from $300 to $700/wk depending on the area and the camp. I don't know how much sleepaway would be, but I would think more since there's more responsibility/supervision involved on the part of the camp.

We paid $265 (fundraised and got donations too) for ds to attend his first Boy Scout summer camp. He will be there from July 26-Aug 1. That includes his laundry getting done in the middle of the week and stopping for breakfast going up and coming back.

That's genius! When DS went to Scout Camp he brought home a bag full of clean clothes but that's because he never changed!!! He said he didn't want me to worry about it when he got home. I would love it if they did laundry there!!! :cool1:

Our camp varies...
Cub Scout camp for 4 nights = $98
Church Camp for 6 nights = $780

HUGE difference. It depends on what programming they offer, the supervision, location, ...

The camp that I volunteer at every summer is $340 for the week (Sun-Sat, sleep away church camp) in PA.

My daughters camp in OP is a girl scout camp. I think I was right to think it was a little high, looking at your camps..:upsidedow

4-H camp for 2 nights and three days (transportation to and from and all meals)
cost $110.

Church camp for 5 nights and 6 days (no transportation but includes all meals and a t-shirt) cost $75.00

Location: Kentucky

The day camp my DD is going to a few weeks this summer goes for $125-150/week. I haven't looked into sleep away camp as she's too young.

She goes there as a day care, so it's a necessary expense but not too bad considering I spend more than that to send her little sister to two days of day care! :scared1:

Glad I was able to inspire something!! :lmao:

my daughter is going to girl scout day camp. Camp is from 8:30-4, bus transportation to the camp is provided. A one week session is $185, two week sessions are $300. If you choose to have your child sleepover on the overnight (one night during a two week sessio) it is $15 extra.

We're in CT. DS7's science day camp (3 hrs a day for two weeks) costs $280. DD5's dance day camp (2.5 hrs a day for one week) costs $165.

A nice sleepaway camp (the kind you see represented in movies... on the lake, swimming, archery, ropes course, etc...) in our area costs $2000 for 2 weeks.... which seems pretty dang steep but averages out to about what we pay per person for our family vacations. Still not sure I'll ever want to spend that kind of money on sleepaway camp, but that's what it costs.

My daughter (She'll be 10 tomorrow :goodvibes ) is attending a day camp but they will have two sleepover trips. One to PA and one to CT. She attends Mon-Fri for 8 weeks and I paid $2150. The facility provides many activities such as sports, baking, computers, jewelry making, arts/crafts, game room, karaoke room, huge pool, mini golf, a movie room, etc. Plus she'll be going on trips 2-3 times a week. I found it to be costly but when I am able to see where my money is going, it doesn't hurt as much. ;)
I'm in NYC.

FYI: The Girl Scout Council of Greater NY's camps run anywhere from $95 for weekend getaways or $350-$800 for the sleepaway adventure depending if you are staying for 5, 7, or the full two weeks.

We're in Cincinnati. My girls attend G.S. camp every summer. This year it was $300 for each of them from Sun-Fri. It goes up each year and is getting kind-of pricey but they absolutely love it. They've now gone for 4 years and are asking to go for 2 sessions next year. Yikes! Not sure if we can afford that.

Xcited4Disney,

Would you mind PM'ing me what camp your daughter goes to? We live in NYC, too (different borough) and I'm paying $3,000 for my DD (7yrs old) to attend 8 weeks of 9am-4pm day camp. Would love to find something cheaper for future summers (that still has decent activities)

I live in Northern NJ. The town day camps are about $1900 for 6 weeks. The private day camps at local universities are about $2100 for 6 weeks.

That being said private day camps where they bus teh kids to a large 40+ acre facility (looks like sleepaway camp from the movies) run $3800 for 1 4 week session or about $6600 for the full 8 weeks.

DD attends a combo of the camps that are in the area. I would prefer to send her to the private day camp (which includes food and transportation) all summer but she also likes to dance and will be doing 4 weeks of a ballet intensive in central jersey this summer.

My son attends the Township Recreation camp. It's $650 (would have been $590 if I registered early)for the summer 8:15am- 3:00pm. No over nights just a couple of day trips that cost additional $ (Baseball games, Six Flags, etc.) So far he loves it and I love the price!!! (BTW They even gave us 3 shirts).

Virginia here.

Our County provides a 6 week day program (4 days a week; 8 hours a day). They go on an outing once a week. It's a great bargain: $150! (that includes the field trips) ETA: Read on the other thread about bad experience with this type of day camp. That's too bad. We are very fortunate to have a great program, but I have heard of this type of program being less than great in other areas.

My son is going to a 12 day sleep over camp at a University. It is an academic camp and acceptance was competitive. $1100.
(He was accepted to a much more competitve and elite academic camp locations throughout the nation, with transportation, books, etc. the cost would have been $4000 for three weeks. Too much for us.)

He currently is at an overnight camp sponsored by the National Guard for children of Guardsmen. There are lots of donations and it is probably subsidized by the state. One week over night camp: $100 :woohoo:

Boy Scout Camp for 7 days/6 nights is $300 in NH. Keep in mind the food is good but the accommodations are very rough. Outhouses - yuck!
