Over the summer my Mom, sister and I went to a local walmart. My sister and mom were already checked out online so I gave them my keys to go put their groceries in the car and start the air condition since it was like 90 degrees out. Now....I had an automatic car starter put in my car years ago but for some reason the way they hooked it up when you start the car the doors automatically lock.......I'm sure you know where I am going with this. Well I finish up checking out and start walking the parking lot to my car when I see my sister shut the back of the trunk (I have a jeep) and put her hands to her mouth and started to freak out. I knew that she had just locked the keys in the car....with it running.....with the air condition on.....with less than a 1/4 tank of gas that I had in there. All I could do at the moment was laugh. I did not have an extra key on me so there we were out of luck.

We went inside the store and they kindly informed us that the local police dept. does not help out in these kinds of situations. AGHHHH So I went to the automtive section and asked a gentlemen if he had anything I could use and he was nice enough to get a coat hanger and after 15 minutes got my doors unlocked. My sister and I gave him a HUGE hug and gave him a very good tip.

My husband twice in college locked his keys in the car with the car running. Yes twice. One time he was gone from his car for over an hour when he came back and noticed. I can't remember the details of the second time. Twice. :lmao:

I've only ever locked my keys in once (car not running) and I happened to have a plastic "extra" key in my wallet. Whew!

One word...Onstar. I don't have to worry (as long as my battery is ok). I did lock my keys in the car once (not running), but it wasn't a big deal because DH and I work in the same building and he had a key to my car as well. :thumbsup2

I haven't locked my keys in any car since I got electric locks. I never touch the manual lock button or use a key to lock and unlock the car.

I have dont it more times that I can remember. I was the best for doing it at my own house, having no spares and having to have hubby come home from work to unlock my car so I could go to work. I even did it on Sept 11.

Now I have AAA I have yet to lock them in.... it figures

Thank you! I thought I was the only one who's done it more then once. :rotfl:

I still have manuel locks, which my kids tell me is so old.

AAA offers locked car assistance, yet another reason to have them! :)

I haven't done it in a really long time, and I actually don't think I can if the keys are in the ignition.

But once a long time ago, I locked them in my Plymouth Sundance at KMart. I came out and almost freaked, until I realized my manual sunroof was tilted open. A very nice guy in the parking lot helped me take out the sunroof, and I climbed through the top. Problem solved. I loved that car.

One time my mom locked her keys and MY CHILD in her car!:scared1: Apparently she got him in the car and then went to go get the mail very quickly. Out of habit she hit the button on the door that locked ALL the doors and then got out. Meanwhile, her keys were on the seat.

I got a phone call informing me that my just turned 3 year old was locked in the car and crying. I raced over to my mom's house and there was my sweet little boy strapped in his car seat. It was one that is virtually impossible for the child to undo. Poor thing, I'll never forget that little face staring at me crying and putting his hand up against the window so that I would put my hand up against his on the other side. It was so sad!

To be honest, I don't remember what they did to get the door open, I was too busy worrying about him. Needless to say, he decided NOT to sleep over at grandmom's house that night. ;)

I locked my keys in the car, and my DD, a toddler at the time, was strapped in her car seat. She managed to get the seat belt part undone and was able to get to the door of the car with her car seat stapped on to her backside.

She still remembers it and I know that I was scared half to death at the time but the visual of her making her way to the door wearing a casreat is :lmao: now.

I've done it three times with electric locks.

Now I have a new car with OnStar - and I haven't done it since. I also have delayed locking, so if I ever have that "Shut the door and remember as it's slamming" moment, it won't actually be locked.

I should have said automatic electric locks with the key fob. I always lock and unlock with the fob.

I have locked my eyes in each of our cars twice and ALWAYS during a deployment so the other set is at home. God Bless the Saturn dealership, they have always came out with an extra key for me. Now I always keep extra keys in my wallet if possible.

My old car locked DH out - does that count???

The thing was posessed. While you were driving the DIGITAL radio would chnage stations, the wipers would come on for no reason, the seat would start to move - and yes the doors would lock and unlock on their own. I kept begging him to take it in and have somebody look at it as there was clearly some electrical problem going on - he never would.

Then - one day I took DH's car to work and he took mine - it was about 5º outside so he went out and started the car, made sure the doors were unlocked - went back in the house for a few minutes to let the car warm up, then locked up the house and went to leave only to find out that the car had locked him out! Since he had just locked up the house, this was 10 years ago before most people carried cell phones AND it was 5 am so he couldn't bug a neighbor - he had no choice but to walk 3 miles in 5º weather without hat or gloves to the police station to get somebody to help him!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

He decided that weekend that the best thing to do would be to just get me a new car :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yeah. And with the button on the door handle inside the car?

I have the fob too - but the first time I got out of the car with the car running to get something and my hand hit the button on the door and the door slammed shut while I heard a click........

The second time was along the same lines....

And the third time was while doing something smart - locking the doors with the fob, and then putting the keys in my pocket so as not to lock them in the car.... but I put them down next to the car seat first while getting my baby out..... good news: the baby wasn't locked in....

Delayed locking and OnStar were both invented for me.

I had one car alarm that had an option to automaticaly roll up the windows and lock the car after a certain preset time period. I, of course, had that option disabled.

But ever since my first new car I have always had a spare key hidden on the car. What good is a key in your wallet if you do not have your wallet, or you have locked that in the car also?

I lock my keys in the car all the time;) . Then again my car has an outside keypunch pad. The downside is that any future cars I buy better have that feature, or I'll be locking my keys in the car all the time! Oy!
