Who had more influence is your DVC purchase decision? Do you think a man is involved (solely or with his wife) in the vast majority of DVC purchases?

Wow...I'm the first person to vote! I voted for both DH and I making a joint decision. Although, I was the primary researcher and fact-finder.

What happened was after a couple fantastic WDW and Disney Cruise vacations, we had a few really terrible non-Disney vacations. After our last disaster we decided that Disney was the vacation we wanted to ensure taking year after year. So when SSR happened, it was a perfect opportunity!

We're already talking about an add-on (hopefully at VWL) in the near future!
:sunny:

Since we had made the joint decision not to buy in '96, DH wouldn't have brought the subject up again. He doesn't go back to rethink old decisions.

I thought it would be a good idea to look into it again, and DH got caught up in the enthusiasm and we went for it!

PS. So on the poll, I took the credit, DW's idea, DH signed enthusiastically.

Same here, except change 'DH' to 'DW' ;) .

I voted DW had major influence. DH was not hard to convince and did read thoroughly through contracts, but it was my idea. I am the Disney "freak". My husband just enjoys nice vacations, and if they happen to be at WDW, so be it!

It was my idea to do the tour. It was our joint idea to buy points. We went home and crunched numbers. We bought our OKW resale about a month after our trip.

It was a 50-50 decision all the way but it didn't hurt to have four little (at least back then they were little) voices in the background saying "pleeeeeease". So who had the most influence?

Same. I did the leg work and DW was all for it. We have been hoping to get back to Disney the last few years, but we were waiting for the kids to get little older. Now our youngest is 5 and we're planning a trip to Disney in April. I found out about DVC during the vacation planning and figured it made sense to buy in before this trip so we did.

The decision to buy initially was 50-50, but our ad-ons were solely me determining if it was financially feasible. There was no need for my wife to think about any add-ons. :cool2:

Same as Melody. I called for the info, but the decision for both the original purchase and our add-on was a joint one.

a dear friend for VWL. I am the Diz nut and my spouse likes it well enough but he's a boater and a skier. After less than 24 hours in a 1 bedroom villa, my spouse looked across the table and said "I think we should sell the boat and buy into the DVC." I facilitated that happening quick, before he could change his mind, but he has had no regrets!

I voted "DH (it was DH's idea--DW just signed where needed)."
I had to convince DW it was a good idea. She is very glad that my powers of persuasion worked. ::yes::

The truth of the matter is, it happened for us exactly as Dr T described!

However, it is funny that whenever the subject comes up, DW insists that she wanted to look into it on some of our early trips and I was the one who resisted.

I will admit, I had no problem walking past all those kiosks in the parks thinking "What kind of scam are they running there?"

But the idea to join, and the subsequent research were mine, mine, mine!!!

Uh...sorry about that. Funny how people always are willing to take ownership of the great decisions! :p

DH has a contract in his name, DW has a contract in her name.

:rotfl:

Okay.. I didn't do that one, I'm the one vote (at least at the moment) for

Not married (male) , but I am co-owners with someone else.

But that one is just to funny... definite Disneyholics - gotta love it!!

I saw the information on the on-site TV back in 1992. We took the tour our next trip, and both decided we wanted to do it. Then DH decided we had to wait until we could pay for the whole thing at once, so we waited until 1997 to buy. We have 380 points, and that seems to be just right for us.

August '03 we were at Polynesian. M dd and I were having a last morning at MK, dh was back at the resort. On the way to the airport, dh announced that he had checked into that DVC thing but couldn't arrange a tour since we were leaving an hour later. (that alone surprised the heck out of me, this man is not a Disney nut). So, he told me that he had given them our phone number and they would be calling me. They called (thanks Betty P.) and one month later we were owners.

It still amazes me that he did such a thing. All he asked is that we buy at BWV since he really liked it there the one time we walked around it for a total of about 30 minutes!!!!

Once we decided that Disney would be our "vacation home", we started to look into DVC. Finally we made the commitment to purchase, about 6 months after talking to DVC, we ended up buying at both VB and BWV. Like most, we just wished we had made the decision to do it so much earlier.

Last year's Fairytale package decided it for us. We upgraded to an OKW 1BR. Then, this spring, we stayed at CSR and decided we couldn't do the hotel room any longer. We bought DVC the next day.

We received the original mailing prior to the DVC/OKW opening and wanted to join, but with 4 kids in private college, high shcool and elementary, we just felt the timing was off. But I never forgot, and even kept the mailing and in 1999 when I graduated from college after a long hiatus, DH our usual WDW trip planner took us and the the kids and their kids tp celebrate my graduation. I dragged him....he kept muttering "BWV leaves me cold, this better be short". Now he loves to tell friends and family that he was nearly "giggling" when he asked where he should sign. This from a man who never makes a financial committment w/o 24 hrs deliberation!

We bought 200 pts at BWV and later added 150 at BCV and are looking for 100-150 at OKW (my first love and still the best resort, imho). So I voted DW (me) but I guess it is an overall joint decision. I gave myself credit because he mumbled.

We had toured about 11 years ago, and wanted it, but....$$$ just did not fit with us at the time. We then vacationed there about 7 years ago, and split time between AS Sports, and a very nice 2 br condo almost across the street. We saw the difference right then and there. We felt if they would treat you that well in a low end resort at Disney, then service must be pretty good across the board. In comparison the timeshare we stayed at across the street, well it just seemed they thought they were doing us a favor. DW and I swore that day that we would buy DVC asap. On our next trip we dicided to stay at the Poly, and fell in love all over again (not only with each other, but staying on property) so made a point to visit DVC once again, and bought this time (Finally). We thought we would stay every other year, but quickly decided that wouldn't work, so added on and will be visiting every year from now on. That add on was also a joint decision. Or course I have to admit I was the catalyst to getting it done. :)
