I am also from the class of 84. Two more days I will be forty. Time has sure flown by! I sure wouldn't mind being eighteen again. I will take the 80's back.

Count me in as another from the class of '84. Where the heck did the time go and when did I become old enough to have a 13 year old? :confused3

On an 80's note my cabbage pach kid is still in my room at Moms house. LOL

oh we had "friendship pins" in the early 80s. They were small safety pins with tiny colored beads on them and you would pin them on your shoes. The beauty was you could make a ton so you'd have them to trade but even if you didn't trade them (didn't have friends), your shoe was full so you looked "cool" (not that I did anything like that.... :cool1: )

Like, ohmygod, I like totally remember the friendship pins. :goodvibes
I remember having like 100 of them pinned to my "designer" shoelaces. Rememer those? I had a pair of shoelaces with peach colored hearts that I would wear with my white Nike's with the peach colored swoop.

Oh, and remember tretorns (sp?). I remember just having to have a pair.
How about making our jeans tight at the ankle and rolling them up, that was NICE!! :cool1:

Does anybody remember that group Aha? Their video played NONSTOP on MTV, the one where the lead singer is a drawing and the girl pulls him out of the cartoon and he is turned into a 'real boy'

Take on me...

That song to me is SOOO the 80s. Must've seen the video like 1000 times.
OMG!!!!!! I forgot about that!! Wow. That was great. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

"Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999"

Waaay back then I remember being floored when I figured out I'd be (gasp) 30 when that magic number rolled around.
My friends and I did the same thing and when I realized I'd be 28 I remember thinking "Well, that's not too old. I'll still be in my 20's and can still party."

And what did I do on New Years Eve 1999?
I spent it at home with a 3 yr old, a 5 yr old, and puking my guts out from the horrible morning sickness I had because I was pregnant with twins. Oh yeah, party all night long! :rotfl:

It's all good though. I love my rugrats. :teeth:

OMG..I remember tight-rolling my jeans. We thought we were SO cool.

My friends and I were really big into the late 80's hairmetal scene, so we had HUGE ratted out hair, giant 'mall' bangs, scruffy band tees and tight, acidwashed jeans full of holes. We also were huge into the studded black leather boots with chains around the ankle and heel.

Now, I also remember a fad going around where you had an acidwashed denim jacket that people would write all over in Sharpie marker. Did anybody else do that, or was that something that just happened where I lived?

I saw a guy in Wal Mart just the other day and he had his jeans tight rolled.
I swear, no lie.

And no, he was not on the cusp of rebirthing a trend, he was definitely stuck in the 80s. The combination of the mullet he was sporting along with the tight rolled jeans was a dead giveaway :rotfl:

Think Billy Ray Cyrus :confused3

Was that my DH? I think he finally quit tight rolling his jeans a few months ago because my neighbor made so much fun of him. I think he quit doing the tie thing with his belt about the same time. The bad part is I didn't even notice, I guess I was so used to it, didn't think anything of it. He let go of the mullet about 15 years ago.

I have a high school picture with a polo shirt with the collar up, IOU sweatshirt, guess jeans, rolled tight of course, and hair feather to perfection where it met in the back, and of course trehorns on my feet. I forgot about those and the braided headbands.

We went through a phase at our school when we wore doubled up pairs of boxer shorts instead of shorts. What were we thinking?

Also I loved the Blood Hound Gang!

I want my $2!

The song that screams "80s" to me is Tears for Fears - 'Shout'. I remember we didn't have MTV at home, so whenever we went to visit the G-Parents (who did - man, Granny was so cool) it was a HUGE thing to me. My youngest aunts are just a few years older than I am, I don't think Granny was a Van Halen 'Jump' nut or anything. I OD'd on MTV that Thanksgiving night, 1985 - must have seen the 'Shout' video a dozen times that evening. I "just" listened to pop music to impress the girls, not that I "liked" it or nuthin'. I was more a metalhead than a pop music fan.

Since I was MTV-deprived it was Friday Night Videos & Radio 1990 for me (we just had -cough- basic cable). I recall USA channel (now it's a "network" snicker) had a heavy metal-themed video show called 'Night Flight' or something like that. I'd come home from H.S. dances and watch those 'til whenever. Like I said before, I was more a metalhead (there's a big reason I don't have that "98% do" on my sig) than a pop music fan so here's some hard rock / metal classic tunes:

Def Leppard - 'Photograph' & 'Pour Some Sugar on Me'
Van Halen - 'Jump', 'Panama' & 'Hot for Teacher'
Motley Crue - 'Shout at the Devil' & 'Smokin' in the Boys Room'
Quiet Riot - 'Cum on Feel the Noize'
Metallica - 'Master of Puppets', 'Fade to Black' & 'Blackened'
Anthrax - 'I'm the Man' & 'Caught in a Mosh'
Scorpions - 'The Zoo', 'Blackout', 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' & 'Still Loving You' (I'm still a Scorpions fan - I even own their 1969 debut album 'Lonesome Crow' - they kind of had a hard edged jazz-fusion type thing going way back them)
Guns & Roses - 'Sweet Child of Mine' ("Appetite for Destruction" is a classic)
Aerosmith - "Permanent Vacation" & "Pump" albums ROCK!

U2 - "The Joshua Tree" (the first time it hit me that "time flies" was in 1996 and I realized that album was 10 years old)
R.E.M. - "Document" album

'Don't Worry Be Happy'

Look Who's Talking movies
Kindergarten Cop

Cheers TV show - "Norm!"

I used my mullet as a pillow, and dreamed Buggles dreams...

cwnhokie - Were you in Charleston WV in the 80s? I lived in Beckley WV from Summer '86 to Summer '87 (my senior year in H.S.). I played on the Woodrow Wilson H.S. soccer team. We played a bunch of teams in Charleston - G.W. was our big rival.

No I was actually in Maryland, near FT. Meade. And now I'm in Charles Town, not Charleston, which is pretty far away from here. Did you'all do the crazy boxer shorts thing? I remember Friday Night Videos. We didn't even have cable. We had something called SuperTv for a while that was supposed to be like cable, but really didn't come close. I went to my grandmother's to watch the cool shows too, like Fraggle Rock on HBO!

And now I'm in Charles Town, not Charleston

D'oh. I read that in your sig. I just didn't sweat the comprehension.

Yep, did the goofy double boxers thing - I thought it was just a WV thing. Obviously it wasn't.

OK another Class of 87 here. With a couple more that haven't been mentioned.
Luke and Laura's Wedding.
The Rock Opera "Chess" w/ "One Night in Bangkok"
Styx "Mister Roboto"
The Movie "Pink Floyd: The Wall"

WHAT? The 80's are over??? :faint: I just saw Duran Duran in July(see photo below)...talk about being in a time warp! Speaking of time wrap, we can't forget the Rocky Horror Picture Show!

It's just a jump to the left, and a step to the riiiiiiight! Put your hands on your hips, and bring your knees in tight.
It's the pelvic thrust, that really drives you insaaaaane.
LET'S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN!

Jeans jackets with something painted on the back, and covered with pins in the front was the rage, especially with metalheads. Sometimes people would write on the jackets.

Also:

Ms. Pacman, Donkey Kong, Asteroids, Frogger, Pole Position, Space Invaders, Combat.
I still love Ms. Pacman. I have the tv plug and play version of it :)

That is so funny and all of this brings back so many memories for me!

Yes, we did the boxer short thing at our school too, only we were so cool, we used fabric paint to PAINT ours. You know, the splatter paint look. You could also personalize them by writing all your posse's names on them with those letters that you put the balls on the end of. Yall know what I'm talking about, and then write something corny like 'Friends 4Ever' or 'The Brew Crew' on the leg.

Not that I ever did that. :rolleyes1

And then if you were REALLY cool, you made matching Tshirts and pulled them tight around the waist with a matching scrunchie.

Of course, you had to complete the outfit with white Keds with no shoestrings! party:
What the heck were we thinkin'?

Just so ya know, DH and I were jammin' to this CD earlier today in our MINIVAN. :lmao:

U2 The Joshua Tree will never live alone in the 80s, it is IMO one of the best albums ever made of all times, PERIOD.

Oh, Tears for Fears IS so the 80s, I remember that one too. How bout

"Feed the World"

I watched that video so many times, I had it memorized.

Beat It
Thriller
Billie Jean
I'd get so excited when those songs came on the radio. Remember those big TAPE RECORDERS. Before the days of the CD, you'd wait for your favorite song to come on the radio, then you'd have to RUN get your recorder and stick it up to the mike and you'd ALWAYS miss like the first 15 seconds of the song. I thought I was cool when they finally came out with the radios with the tape recorders BUILT IN. That was big time! :cool1:
