Does anybody remember that group Aha? Their video played NONSTOP on MTV, the one where the lead singer is a drawing and the girl pulls him out of the cartoon and he is turned into a 'real boy'
"Taaaaaake onnnnnnnn meeeeeee"
Take on me...
That song to me is SOOO the 80s. Must've seen the video like 1000 times.
The song that screams "80s" to me is Tears for Fears - 'Shout'. I remember we didn't have MTV at home, so whenever we went to visit the G-Parents (who did - man, Granny was so cool) it was a HUGE thing to me. My youngest aunts are just a few years older than I am, I don't think Granny was a Van Halen 'Jump' nut or anything. I OD'd on MTV that Thanksgiving night, 1985 - must have seen the 'Shout' video a dozen times that evening. I "just" listened to pop music to impress the girls, not that I "liked" it or nuthin'. I was more a metalhead than a pop music fan.
Since I was MTV-deprived it was Friday Night Videos & Radio 1990 for me (we just had
-cough- basic cable). I recall USA channel (now it's a "network"
snicker) had a heavy metal-themed video show called 'Night Flight' or something like that. I'd come home from H.S. dances and watch those 'til whenever. Like I said before, I was more a metalhead (there's a big reason I don't have that "98% do" on my sig) than a pop music fan so here's some hard rock / metal classic tunes:
Def Leppard - 'Photograph' & 'Pour Some Sugar on Me'
Van Halen - 'Jump', 'Panama' & 'Hot for Teacher'
Motley Crue - 'Shout at the Devil' & 'Smokin' in the Boys Room'
Quiet Riot - 'Cum on Feel the Noize'
Metallica - 'Master of Puppets', 'Fade to Black' & 'Blackened'
Anthrax - 'I'm the Man' & 'Caught in a Mosh'
Scorpions - 'The Zoo', 'Blackout', 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' & 'Still Loving You' (I'm still a Scorpions fan - I even own their 1969 debut album 'Lonesome Crow' - they kind of had a hard edged jazz-fusion type thing going way back them)
Guns & Roses - 'Sweet Child of Mine' ("Appetite for Destruction" is a classic)
Aerosmith - "Permanent Vacation" & "Pump" albums ROCK!
U2 - "The Joshua Tree" (the first time it hit me that "time flies" was in 1996 and I realized that album was 10 years old)
R.E.M. - "Document" album
'Don't Worry Be Happy'
Look Who's Talking movies
Kindergarten Cop
Cheers TV show - "Norm!"
I used my mullet as a pillow, and dreamed Buggles dreams...
