Inspired: A Trip Down Memory Lane 80's Style....

Does anyone remember telephone cord belts? You'd wear them around a baggy shirt? I had a blue one, and one day, like in 4th grade, I had let one of my friends wear it, I walked into the bathroom at school and her and another friend were on each end of the bathroom s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g it across the bathroom to see how far they could get it to pull. It was never the same again.

I remember the 80's well, but my teenage years were during the 90's. The 90's just weren't the same I don't think. Maybe because it wasn't all that long ago yet, but I remember sooooo much from the 80's, and I hardly have any distinct memories of the 90's...

U2 The Joshua Tree will never live alone in the 80s, it is IMO one of the best albums ever made of all times, PERIOD.

Yep. That is a timeless album. I listen to it at least once every couple of weeks. My original cassette lasted about 9 months. Bought two more replacement cassettes over the years until we upgraded to CD. It was one of the first CDs we bought. My first CD got scratched after about 4 or 5 years, and I'm on that second CD now. I ripped two copies (what - is that wrong?) to keep one in my car and one at work.

Remember these?
Intellivision
Commodore VIC-20 (the data media was a regular audio cassette)

Zaxxon
Q-Bert
Centipede
Galaga
Dragon's Lair
Gauntlet

Putt-Putt Golf

Roller skating at the roller rink - I remember trying to stay skating next to that special someone so that I was the first to get to her when the DJ would call for couple skating.

Count me in as another from the class of '84. Where the heck did the time go and when did I become old enough to have a 13 year old? :confused3

On an 80's note my cabbage pach kid is still in my room at Moms house. LOL

Deanna :bored: :cat:

My Cabbage Patch resurfaced at my parents' house, and now my dd plays with it!

I am a product of the 80s and this thread brought back so many memories!

I saw a guy in Wal Mart just the other day and he had his jeans tight rolled.
I swear, no lie.

And no, he was not on the cusp of rebirthing a trend, he was definitely stuck in the 80s. The combination of the mullet he was sporting along with the tight rolled jeans was a dead giveaway :rotfl:

Think Billy Ray Cyrus :confused3

Hey! I just wore my jeans that way a couple of months ago...
When I went to the "Awesome 80's Prom". I went to the salon that day because I was due for a cut and color and I had my stylist do my hair 80s. OMG we DIED laughing, I had like 3 stylists ratting out my hair and spray spray spraying. When I came around the corner to pay, I told the receptionist (who didn't see or hear all of our mayhem) "Like isn't my hair pretty!" She said "uhhh yeah" and I busted out laughing and told her where I was going. What a sigh of relief for her LOL. Then I went over to Old Navy to see if they had leg warmers. My outfit for the nights was a pink and green striped Izod Polo with collar up and my jeans tight rolled and tucked into big socks. :lmao:

There's a mix cd that I made for my son here at the computer desk. On it are the following (among some other newer songs):

"Word Up" by Cameo
"Atomic Dog" by George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic
"Pass the Dutchie" by Musical Youth
"Major Tom (Coming Home)" by Peter Schilling
"Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats
"Electric Avenue" by Eddie Grant
"Fight for your Right (To Party)" & "Brass Monkey" by the Beastie Boys
"I Wanna be a Cowboy" by Boys Don't Cry

UGLY prom dresses!

WHAT? The 80's are over??? :faint: I just saw Duran Duran in July(see photo below)...talk about being in a time warp! Speaking of time wrap, we can't forget the Rocky Horror Picture Show!

It's just a jump to the left, and a step to the riiiiiiight! Put your hands on your hips, and bring your knees in tight.
It's the pelvic thrust, that really drives you insaaaaane.
LET'S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN!

Yep. You had to see Rocky Horror at least fifteen times to be part of the 80's. :rotfl2: For some reason, I'll always remember Madonna and her video Like a Virgin when it was first released on MTV. I was college and my roommate says, "Come here. Check this gal out." Madonna was still an "unknown" at the time.

The other thing that was sooo 80's was Prince and his Purple Rain album.

Every time we visited my grandmother, my uncle would take my sibs and I to Showtime. I LOVED it..Mitzi rocked. I was kinda sad when they all got taken over by Chuck E. Cheese (who is just plain cheesy if ya ask me :lmao: ).

nwdisneygal--I STILL love watching Purple Rain. Mmm...Prince and Appalonia *drool*

For us, Rocky Horror was pretty much a rite of passage. When you were in 7th or 8th grade your older sibs (or the older sibs of friends, if you didn't have any of your own) would make you watch it. After that you were no longer a 'virgin'. :smokin: :smooth: :woohoo:

We did a play my senior year in HS that was made of vignettes written by the actors themselves. Part of the show was one of the HS's bands playing "Brick In the Wall". :)

And we all thought George Michael was (swoooooon) soooo cute...hello prancing in neon short shorts ??????

I just went to something called the Awesome 80s Prom in Chicago and it was like totally tubular. They like sooo totally had the "normal" people from the 80s and they like talked to you like they knew you... I know! Totally
Anyway, enough of the 80s talk, it's like Tony and Tina's Wedding, only 80s prom style. The performers interact with you like they know you. You become a part of the 89 Wanaget High Prom, tease out your hair, flip your polo collar up (like way up), tuck the socks in the jeans and dance to tunes of the 80s.
I know I sound like an ad but it is really fun, the walls are covered with posters and pics from the 80s. I know it's in New York and Chicago and a couple of other cities. Lots of fun for 80s freaks

Lizzybee, I have not heard of this...hmmm, I might have to check it out. Sounds like a lot of fun!

He's Bono. He's SUPPOSED to be callous and snooty. Sheesh.

How about Trivial Pursuit? I remember making my mom drive ALL over town when they first came out trying to find that game, but all the stores were all sold out. Now, you can't throw a dead cat in a mall (I hate to shop, so I'm tempted to do just that whenever I'm in a mall) without hitting a Trivial Pursuit - Teletubbies Edition or Genus #179.

Rubik's Cubes

Subaru Brat - I think each one came standard from the factory with a guy in a mullet / beer belly and a case of beer to ride in the back.

Supertramp - "The Logical Song" & "Breakfast in America"

The TV shows "Square Pegs"
or "Facts of Life"
