I would love to post this on the CB too, because I would love to hear what many people think.

Do you think that the increasing and overwhelming hatred of Americans will die down after the war in Iraq?

Or do you think it will just escalate and spill over into other muslim countries? Heck even our so called allies hate us now!

What kind of future do you see as far as our relationship to the world is concerned?

I wondered the same thing. I HOPE that is dies down, but I really think it depends on how the rebuilding of Afganistan and Iraq goes forth.

I don't think we should worry about popularity. Some of the most influential, intelligent and honored people were not liked by theirs peers - look at Einstein.

I personally do not care. We know what we are doing and we know it's right, why care what someone thinks about you. Haven't you ever done nothing at all to someone and they give you the cold shoulder? People who do not like other people, usually don't like them because they do not understand them or know them. I believe that this is the case in this circumstance.

You're probably right about why they dislike us.

What worries me is how violent this hatred is. If it was just a matter of them "not liking us" I wouldn't care either.

It's the violence.

Yes, I think so.

I think that some people hate the US, because they see us as bullies. I think some hate us, because they see us as too cocky and too proud. I think some hate us, because they fear that we have just started WWIII.
I don't think I'll be eager to travel outside the US anytime soon.

And don't forget that we are hated because we are friends with Israel. I have heard some comments from those nations that they consider one and the same. They hate Israel SO, SO much & as long as we are allies with them, we will be hated.

Buckalew, I think that falls under the bully category, because we pushed so hard for Israel to become a state.

Gotcha! :D
I read 'bully' and only thought of why some people think we are in Iraq today etc. :o

As I'm not from the States and so read and hear different news to yourselves, here's my take on it :

You are not hated as much as you think.

Sure, there's people in certain parts of the globe who would try and shoot someone dead as soon as they heard they were an American, but they'd probably have done that two/three years ago before all this started, because they've been brought up all their lives to believe America is the enemy. Even if Bush suddenly turned around and withdrew all the troops and promised to give every Iraqi a million dollars each, they still probably hate you because that's all they know.

As for most of the world, while many don't like Bush and will gleefully take the p*** out of him, Cheney, Rumsfield et al, it hasn't really affected what many people think of Americans - we DO make a distinction between your nation and the administration in charge.

Even the French (who if your TV coverage is to be believed, every American loathes with every fibre of their being) don't hate Americans - they just don't agree with your politics.

If you're asking this question as in, will this war increase the chances of some other madman trying to do antoher September 11th on American soil, then I'd say possibly, yes. Although with heightened US security, the chances of it succeeding are a LOT smaller.

But if by the question you meant, if I travelled to a foriegn country tommorrow, would I be insulted/ridiculed/hated/abused/whatever just because I'm an American, then I'd say NO. And if you were, then the person who does that to you is severely lacking in IQ (and possibly some other key areas). Just don't get into a debate about politics!
