Does anyone know if there are compatible ink cartridges for Dell printers? We got one with DS's computer and it is time to replace the cartridge and they direct us to their website. I was wondering if there was something I might find locally that would work as well.

I'd like to know as well... they charge you more for the ink than they did for the darn printer (which never has worked right and we are on #4 and out of warranty)...

Yes you can definitely find generic cartridges for use in Dell printers. Most office supply places will have them.

I went to Staples today to buy ink for my Dell 942. They didn't have any compatible cartridges. Wound up buying a cheaper HP printer. DH is using up too much ink, and it is costing me a fortune. We change ink every 6 weeks. Too expensive.

How was buying a new printer saving money? You still have to buy the ink for those too. I find if you order the bulk cartridges from Dell they are less expensive then anything in any store. They work out to be less then $25/cartridge.

Lots of printers now come with "starter" cartridges which don't have as much ink as the replacement cartridges (hence it being cheaper to buy a new printer than new ink.) With that being said though, it's probably wise to get rid of the Dell because the only place you can buy Dell cartridges is from Dell. I believe IBM may make a compatible cartridge but not too sure. Dell printers are a pain!

We have over 10 different Dell printers in my company and we NEVER have bought replacement ink directly from Dell...... You CAN buy Dell compatible cartridges via staples.com - stapleslink.com (for businesses) and through companies that deal with printer service and supplies like http://www.nridata.com/

For me I LIKE my Dell printer because after a couple clicks of the mouse, I have replacement ink on the way to my house. I have had my printer for about 2 years and have ordered ink twice, four cartridges 2 b/w, 2 color for under $100 ($79???). With my old printer the refills were in the $30-35 range at various stores.
