Information from DCL or lack of?

So, I was reading the new protocols Carnival announced yesterday. Not much of a change but I did find it interesting that they first announced new rules for sailings out of Texas at exactly 14-days prior to sailing. Now while we have no idea what Disney will do, it does make me wonder if Disney could also take this to the 14-day wire. If they are first waiting for the test cruise to be approved and a clear to sail certificate, it is possible.

Even at that close of a window, they gave options for people to move or cancel if they were impacted. I suspect that Disney is planning similar, wait till the last possible minute to say anything, but give people the ability to cancel with full refund.

Some notable excerpts from Carnival's rules:
  • Un-vaccinated must have a negative PCR COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to the sailing date, Antigen test at embarkation, and testing again within 24 hours of debarkation on all cruises longer than 4 days.
  • A US$150, per person charge for testing, including children 2+
  • Children under two are exempt from testing and mask wearing requirements.
  • No independent sightseeing in ports of call for unvaccinated guests
  • Un-vaccinated kids 12+ will not be allowed in teen clubs
  • No Camp Ocean (Carnival's kid's club)

I got my "sailing advisory" email with this information from CCL this morning - we're sailing to Alaska in September. We're also being told to look out for a vaccine attestation form that must be completed for each person in our room immediately.

Oh wait, clarification needed- no test at port for vaccinated guests? Does mandatory insurance apply to children under 12 who cannot get vaccinated?

No tests for vaccinated guests that I can see. And per CCL - "Effective with sailings departing July 31, 2021 from Florida, and August 2, 2021 from Texas, guests must also show proof of travel insurance coverage during check-in. This requirement is currently being waived for children under 12 who are ineligible for a vaccine"

I am afraid to look at my plan B - it just stresses me out as more and more cabins get booked. Hopefully we know something today. 😢

I know this is a random question/thought.....why would Disney bring back crew and have to start paying wages if they are not planning to sail? Or will they not start paying crew prior to a revenue sailing? I know dining room help rely mainly on tips, but what about other staff?

I just spoke with a CM at DCL (I was moving one of my clients who was tired of waiting) and, according to her, DCL did communicate its protocol to shoreside this morning. She said the info should be up on the website soon and that guests who are sailing in August should receive e-mails shortly. She was able to give me just a little information about vaccination protocols over the phone. Am I allowed to share them here? It did come directly from a CM but I have no way to independently verify the accuracy of the info.

I don't think you can share them here, but you can PM them to me. (kidding/not kidding).

I would say you can share them here (unless the CM said not to), but I would expect anyone reading them to look for confirmation soon from Disney. It for sure would give us more to talk about than "I think Disney should/will do xxxx".

She said they were told they can provide anybody this information over the phone, so it didn't seem like a secret. But PLEASE take this with a grain of salt until we see it in writing, which should be "soon". She said vaccines will be required for most people 12+. Those who are too young or otherwise unable to be vaccinated will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of sailing. Testing will be provided at the port for a fee. I asked if people will be able to cancel if they aren't happy with the protocol, even if they're within 60 days of sailing. She said they would be working with people to find them a new sail date or to do what they can for them (I don't know what that means exactly). That's all I've got.

Wonder how vaccines can be required for most people ages 12 and up? If vaccines are required, maybe it will be a more normal cruise experience.

The fact that there are vaccination protocols is huge, regardless of what they are. Some people assumed Disney wouldn't even mention the word vaccination.

Wonder how vaccines can be required for most people ages 12 and up? Who gets to sail unvaccinated over the age of 12?

She briefly mentioned the fact that guests scheduled on August sailings would not have time to be vaccinated before their sail date, so they would have to provide proof of a negative test. And medical exceptions. But I am still waiting to make any sort of final judgment until I actually see this on writing.

I had my whole "19 days to go" meme all ready to post!!!! I'll be disappointed if they finally release info today (just kidding!!!!)

Let's face it, I'll post my meme even if DCL gives us info, because meme's are fun!

Oh (one very important thing): She said they are ready to sail in August and there is no indication that additional sailings will be cancelled. Um, only forgot one of the biggest things people are wondering about lol!
I respectfully disagree that this is all we are wondering. The parameters set may determine for some if they choose to go through with it even if they do sail. So it’s not just a matter of “if they sail or not“ for some.

My only horse in the current race is NYE. Next year is Greece. Still time for everything and anything to change. But I am on the edge of my seat with all the August cruisers. I hope that email is this afternoon!!!

Well I said it was ONE of the biggest things people were wondering about lol, and there's literally nothing to agree or disagree about. It's funny: I actually debated about even coming here after my convo with the CM because a big part of me thought some people would somehow figure out a way to be rude, and I'm busy and didn't feel like dealing with the inevitable snarkiness. Which is exactly why I don't post here very often at all. Lesson learned lol.

To be fair, she did say "one of the biggest things" and not "all we are wondering". We are all wondering the if/when cruises go, AND the protocols to be announced.

Sorry you got a less than nice response. I really appreciate you posting. We have 2 cruises in august and are on pins and needles waiting to find out the sailing restrictions.
