info on vwl???

hey....
i am interested in possibly buying into dvc (xmas is coming)...i am interested in purchasing my home resort as vwl...is vwl still available thru disney...we are a family of four (myself, wife, son 12 and daughter 10)...what type of room should we looking towards there...a studio or something larger....anyone have good or bad experiences with vwl???
anyone purchase dvc recently...any special rates or plans that are being offered via disney...

We are a family of 3 and just bought into Disney vacation club. VWL is our "home". When we take my MIL my son will need to sleep on the floor if we get anything less than a 2 bedroom.
I believe in the studio and 1 bedroom there are only 1 queen bed and a sleeper sofa. Am I correct? We would need to get the 2 bedroom to have a 3rd place to sleep?

VWL are still available -- in fact, just yesterday we received a set of postcards that DVC wants us to send to friends to entice them to buy there!

We will be staying there for the first time in 10 days, but toured the villas extensively this past September. To say we are thrilled with our purchase is an understatement!

As far as promotions, I believe Magical Beginnings is available, where you can sell back part (all?) of your first year's points to DVC for -- is it $5 or $10 per point? -- to offset the cost of your deposit. Do you have a DVC guide? He or she can explain it MUCH better than I can!!

In answer to your question sunking, we also have our home at VWL. We waited 2 years for it to be built, because we always loved WL. It turned out wonderful, I must say . We are only 2 people, and found the studio to be a little on the small side. So for a family of 4, at least a 1 bedroom would probably not be a bad idea. We have stayed there 2 times, and enjoyed both times very much.

With the ages of your children, and having a boy and a girl, you might want to consider purchasing enough points for a 2BR unit. The studios have 1 queen size bed and a sofa sleeper, and if your kids are like mine (I have 2 boys), they do not want to share a sofa sleeper. Also, in the 1 BR, there is a King size bed and a sofa sleeper in the living room. So, a 2BR would probably work better for you - giving 2 places to sleep (bed and sofabed) in the 2nd bedroom along with another full bath, and also the sofabed in the living room. My husband and I stayed at VWL in September, and we loved it there. The point calculator on this site will help you play with numbers and dates to see how many points to purchase. Good luck!

As another family of four with one boy and one girl, a word of caution. You should expect to need a 2 BR when all are going. We have 2 teens and they obviously can't sleep together. So let this serve as a warning to what size unit and therefore number of points you will need.

I don't want to do the unit occupancy debate but I've never seen a rule against a sleeping bag, cot or air mattress and as long as you don't excede the limits, no one should have any concerns. They don't supply roll aways. The trouble is that with teenagers, you get the arguement who gets the bed, etc. and that can be a pain.

In our case MIL would get the sleeper sofa. I cant ask her to sleep on the floor! Son would get the floor.
We are a family of 3 so when MIL does not vacation with us son gets the sofa bed.
