I have been reading through many of the posts regarding the beaches on the Gulf side or the Atlantic. We are going to add on a couple of relaxing days to the end of our WDW trip this November by heading to the beach. We just can't decide where to go. I had been leaning toward Cocoa Beach since it's under an hour, but then I began reading things regarding sting rays, murky water, etc. If you have some input to beaches, especially to the November time of year (temperature of water and such), could you please share? Pretty much, we'd like to keep it to under 2 hours driving from WDW. Any hotel info will be appreciated, too. We definitely want to be ON the beach, as in, stand on the balcony and there is the ocean - nothing that is "one block from the beach."

Thank you!

Each year during our visits to Orlando, in early December, we also plan a couple days at the beach. The Atlantic coast is colder and a little more rough than the Gulf coast but we like both.

We like going to Daytona Beach because we also like stopping by the Speedway on the way. There are resorts/timeshares right on the beach.

We have also rented points from DVC members and stayed in Vero Beach. While we enjoyed our trip to VB the beach is small compared to Daytona. My DD though it was boring there but us old folks just loved it and would love to go back again.

This year we are going to spend a couple days on Sanibel Island but the drive there is further than it looks like you want to go.

That raises another question...some posters have been stating how the Gulf side is calmer. We are not surfers, but we like playing in the waves. Are there still waves on the Gulf side? That is one thing that my daughter is looking forward to.

Being a surfer I can tell you that the gulf is calmer and can be quite still a depending on time of year and tropical conditions.

Saying that, during the winter there are usually enough storms moving about the gulf to stir up some nice if choppy waves to play in. The Atlantic is far more consistant though.
