I know many of us are starting to train for the 2005 WDW half-marathon or full marathon. Even more of us are walking or running for exercise. I thought I'd start a thread to list some helpful links I've found. Feel free to post things that you find that might help us.

Here's a site that gives info and training schedules for walking the half or full marathon, along with tons of walking info:

If you've never heard of rail trails here's a site that explains them. They're basically old railroad track beds with the tracks removed. They are great for walking or running because there's no traffic, the mileage is usually marked and the soft surfaces are easier on the feet & legs.

Volksmarches are generally 10K (6.2 mile) walks. The trail is laid out for you. Some places have 5K (3.1 mile) walks as well. There are some walks that are held just one weekend a year and there are walks that are available year round. These walks are all over the country and even in many other countries around the world. You can find out about these here:

If you have any questions about these, feel free to post them or PM me. If you've found other helpful sites, please post them so we all can benefit.

Onward we go!! :sunny:

Wow! What a great bunch of resources! My favorites list is much larger now, thanks for posting this. I've already signed up for the Walk of Life program. Who knows, maybe I will be able to walk this 1/2 marathon.....one can only hope.

Some great info! I found 2 trails not far from me that I will try in the spring for running. I'll have to get someone to go with me though since I don't like the idea of doing trails alone. I'm trying to find parks around my area that have running paths at the moment. Not finding much though so for now I'll stick with my subdivision.

Great running schedules and good ideas about the basics of running. He also has some good books out too!

HTH!

Doreen, thanks for the great links!! Boy this really makes the marathon feel closer! I hope everyone shares their training tips as we get closer to the Main Event!
