Inflatable Lawn Decorations

I thought my family was the only ones who don't like these. We think they are for those with no creativity. The snowglobe ones were almost cute in August, now since every house has them they are just as annoying. The inflatables are up there with those light up plastic figurines. A couple of those are ok, not an entire lawnful! I've seen at least two houses that fill their entire lawn and roof with the plastic figurines, it is very gawdy looking.

I agree, they look like a dead animal on the lawn during the day.

can someone explain the "Cat in the Hat" blow up I saw?
what does that have to do with christmas?

ETA...
one year, when I was younger, my dad made 6 cut outs out of plywood
Homer
Marge
Lisa
Bart
Maggie
and a sign

my mom/bother painted them to look JUST like the simpsons...the big sign said "merry christmas from the XXXX's"

tacky? yes...but totally orginal. I think it was AWESOME! Until someone stole Bart. we had that for years. When we finally took it to the dump to get rid of it...some young couple saw it and asked to have it...so funny

I HATE THEM! They look so tacky; I much prefer regular Christmas lights. I especially hate it when people put several up in close proximity. There is one house on main street in my town which has 2 blowups on their front porch and 3 on the roof of their porch, all lined up.

Not only do they look junky at night, during the day the neighborhood is completely littered with piles of fabric everywhere. Very trashy looking.

How about some classy decorations, people!

Anybody else really dislike the large inflatable lawn Christmas decorations?

Yes. I think they're worse than those blasted "icicle" lights people leave on their gutters far too long......

DS loves them - when we drive around looking at lights, he keeps his eyes open for "blow-up things!" And when they aren't blown up during the day, he says they are "melted." He's gotten pretty good at recognizing what they are even "melted."

I like the traditional stuff best - too many people take the easy way out and just inflate one of these things in front of their house and call it a day. I don't mind if it goes with the overall theme. We have Halloween blow-ups - Jack and Oogie Boogie - and we decorate around that theme.

I like them....but not too many in one yard.
We've had our Santa for years. He stays inflated all the time.
We have a big yard....not that it matters, we would have it anyway. :duck:
I'm sure everyone has some decorations that others don't like.

Oh and we have icicle lights too :teeth:

We like our inflatable Frosty very much. I always think that the people who don't like the inflatables are also the type who think colored lights on the house are tacky and their Christmas trees are color coordinated and themed.

Christmas is about fun and in my mind if my 3 year old thinks it looks good and he has fun then that is all I need to know. DS LOVES his Frosty. :)

Yep, these things run in trends...a few years ago, everyone got the icicle lights.

Personally, if you are going to decorate for Christmas, I think tacky is the way to go. Have a little fun with it and don't take it so seriously. How crazy is it that some neighborhood associations regulate what you can and can't decorate with? If people want to put a blow-up Tigger in their yard, have at it.

I have icicle lights too. It's the blue blinking ones that I think are lame.
As far as the blow up guys go, eh, not so much. I think they are rather tacky. The snowglobe ones are the worst.

DS (7)loves them and begged for one last year. So after the holidays my mom found one for $10 She bought it for him. I talked him into putting in in the back yard so he could see it from his roomLOL! So it doesn't have to be in the front of the house!

Um, yeah, not a fan of them.

I think they're popular because they are cheap and easy (boy, that came out wrong!). Foolproof holiday decor!

Easy yes, cheap? No/ Those snowglobes run from $139 - $199. Alot more than I am willing to spend to have some neighborhood kid come pop it.

I dont like them, but not when you put 10 in a small front yard.

I find it quite ironic, the people who criticize other people's decorating ideas are the ones who have lost the true meaning of Christmas, after all isn't it ALL about the Birth of Jesus, and doesn't the Bible say, thou shalt not judge...???

:cool1:

I don't like everything I see, but I will not call these things Tacky, lame, or wrong, who am I to judge others.., what makes my taste right and theirs wrong....

as for my idea of Christmas, once you get beyond the true meaning and get into the commercialized end and decorating....to me it's for children..

ask any child if they'd rather see a house with lots of colored lights, inflatables and light up plastic figures,

or a house with wreaths and white lites,,,and I'm guessing most children will say the colored lights and lots of stuff... :cool1:

theres a house around here that has at least 6 inflatables all year round..every holiday..football team,,,EVERYTHING

I have a confession to make and nobody's allowed to flame me because it happened 20 some years ago (22?).

Anyway, you know how Easter decorations started the whole thing with the inflatable bunnies and eggs? Well, my best friend and I decided to go on the "Great Easter Bunny Caper." We drove all over town one Easter eve and let the air out of all the bunnies we could find. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We didn't destroy them or anything; we just let the air out.

I swear, I'd kill my kids if they ever pulled a stunt like that. :rolleyes1

boy do I see the tag fairy jumping on this one...

I wonder how many people are in therapy today because you killed their Easter Bunny...LOL

When we take our evening walk around the neighborhood, DH is always tempted to tackle them. :teeth: He never does though. ;)

I kinda like them! There are a lot of cute ones out there. One neighbor has an inflatable for nearly every holiday. They had a turkey out for Thanksgiving. :goodvibes

We didn't even think about kids until days later when we were sitting around laughing about it and one of us said, "I wish I could see the looks on those little kids' faces..." and then we both just stopped laughing. :guilty:

Oy. :rotfl2:

We have an 8' Santa, and the Griswolds next door have an 8' Santa, an 8' Frosty, and an 8' snowglobe. I want the snowglobe myself, but I'm waiting for the after-XMas clearance. I'm way too cheap to pay $150 for one! I like inflatables. They are just one facet of our very tacky XMas display. Of course, we can't hold a candle to the neighbors...their display is extraordinary :rotfl:
