Do you feel sorry for women who are infertile because they had an abortion?

My best friend has been suffering with infertility for years. She goes to a support group in our town and she asked me to come with her tonight. Well, one of the women was in her late thirties and trying desperately to concieve.....she then goes on to tell us how she had *3* abortions in her twenties and thinks this may be the cause. Duh, ya think?!

After she shared her "story", you would not believe the number of women in that group that admitted to previous abortions too!! Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a religious zealot and I believe that it is a woman's choice (I would never have one b/c I think life begins at conception) but for pity's sake......don't go crying that you can't have a child now when you murdered one earlier in your life!!

I think it is Karma.

Yes, I know this will get heated, but I just had to share my disbelief over these women tonight.

So which one is it? You're pro-choice, or it's murder?

Yes, I feel sorry for them.
If you truly believed it was a womans choice you wouldnt be calling them murderers in your next sentence. Your position is clear.
This wont last long...

What I'm feeling is amazement that, once again, someone who's pretty much a newbie (May 2006 and 29 posts) brings such controversial topics to the DIS.

Yes, I feel sorry for them...

You have no right to judge where their life was at 20 versus where the their life is at 40.

Pain is still very real for them.

Abortions do not cause infertility unless something medically went wrong. And I'm stepping back out of this one because I do get angry when people are so judgemental.
There is a saying about walking in someone else's shoes before casting judgement.
And something else about only god can sit in judgement because we all are far too human, none of us are without faults.

It is very possible to feel like it is a woman's choice but still feel like it's murder. It's her choice to murder. It makes perfect sense. You can easily belive that it is someone's choice to do something that you may not agree with.

Wow, some best friend you are!

If you're the best friend she has, then, yes, I definately feel sorry for her. Mainly for that reason.

You're kidding me right? :rotfl:

Yes, I do feel sorry for women who are infertile who have had a previous abortion. Usually, abortions do not result in infertility, but whatever the reason infertility is devastating to a couple. If you haven't been through it, you have no idea. Do this gal a favor and get down off your high horse. Just because she had abortions doens't mean she deserves to have no children.

Just want to jump in here for those of you thinking she must be a religious zealot. . . not everyone has issues with abortion because the Bible tells them so. I'm against it in most cases and it has nothing to do with religion. Not going to get into a debate - we're all free to feel whatever way we want, but just wanted to back OP up that for many people their stance on this issue has no relation to religious background.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing myself. :confused3

I've dealt with my own infertility (with no abortions in case you were wondering) and it is an emotional roller coaster. I wouldn't want to wish it on anyone.

Yes, of course I feel for any woman who is struggling with infertility, regardless of the reason. (I am pro-life, btw)

I think it is really sad that you went to a 'support' group and felt the need to come here and bash these women for opening up a very personal, painful part of their life in a support group. You do understand the meaning of 'support', right?

I think I feel more sorry for you, to be honest.

JMHO

I feel sorry for any woman who wants a child and can't have one. No matter what the reason is.
