Inexpensive relaxing getaway ideas in MA, VT, NH, ME, CT

No, it IS the same "Mystic Pizza", as in the small restaurant. But, you're also right in that the movie is set more in Stonington, and the pizzeria is on the Mystic side of the river. I grew up in the area, I love watching the movie, just for the scenery. Don't expect to get amazing pizza from that restaurant, though--it's never been particularly memorable.

That said, Mystic can be fun to poke around in for a weekend. I particularly like it in the shoulder months--before and after high tourist season. The ocean might be too cold to swim in, but you can enjoy walking on the beaches, shopping, great seafood restaurants, etc.

Our grocery store sells the frozen version. I love it! (Adams in Deep River). I have only eaten at Mystic pizza a handful of times but it's been years. I think because it was always so crowded back then.

The reason I thought they were not in that pizza place because the outside was so different then the movie and I have read things online, like this: http://www.locationshub.com/blog/2013/10/26/the-idyllic-film-locations-of-mystic-pizza

That may not even be a credible source but like I said I have read it numerous times.

OP, Mystic is quaint, as are all the surrounding towns. There are tons of things to do if you like to just relax. If you are looking for some excitement other then the casino there isn't too much.

You're right about the outside, it's pretty distinctive. it's built into a hill, so the sidewalks slopes up. And I think in the movie, the interior had a staircase leading up to the dining room, that I don't remember (but it's been forever since I've been inside, so I could be wrong).

I love North Conway. DH and I go every year in October. We love the small shops especially the 5 and 10 in the center. Yummy fudge! We like to walk around Echo Lake and see Cathedral ledge. There are lots of little B&Bs if you like that. We usually stay at the Residence Inn which has a breakfast as part of the room cost. Comfort Inn is also nice. There are lots of unique restaurants.

Any other tips? We were there years ago when the kids were little, but only for a day trip. Sounds like somewhere we might like to go for a weekend!

We are going to Bar Harbor this summer. I haven't been since 2003. Where do you stay? Right now we are booked at the Harborside, but it's expensive. I'm looking for other options.

We have stayed at the Harborside three times. We would never stay anywhere else. The location can not be beat!!

Thanks for your review. The location does look great! Other than driving to Acadia, I plan on not moving the car.

It was inspired by the real Mystic Pizza, but it was not filmed in the actual restaurant. Before the movie came out, it was always dead there. I had been a few times and the pizza was nothing to rave about. Especially considering some of the great pizza places we have here in the state. I haven't been in forever, but I doubt the pizza has changed much.

After the movie came out, they got real busy and the took over the laundromat that was next door to them and expanded.

The Grand Hotel in Ogunquit ME. Walking distance to shopping, Perkins Cove, the Marginal Way.

Depending on the time of year it can be very reasonably priced.
