I am thinking about inviting my daughters friends and their moms over for a lunch in May. Does anyone have any ideas as to a good activity or craft that we can do together as moms/daughters? There will probably be around 20-30 people here, so it would have to be something somewhat inexpensive. Also, any menu ideas?? :goodvibes

I went to a mother/daughter heritage dinner last year that was a lot of fun. Each family brought a dish to share that was passed down in their family (my recipe was all American and came from my dad so no worries if you don't have a long history to share). The recipes were submitted in advance and the hostess printed them out.

Our craft was creating a family heritage cookbook. This can be as simple as white portfolio folders from the office store, sheet protectors and dividers for meat/side dish/dessert, etc. The girls decorated the front of the cookbook and the moms can compile it the way they like.

We still use ours for a couple recipes we really liked. I also did this with my Girl Scout troop a couple years ago. Each girl submitted their favorite family recipe (if you don't want to go the heritage route) and made troop cookbooks.

I went to a Mother/Daughter luncheon at my grandma's church. They did "Spuds n Splits"--baked potatoes with different topping choices then banana splits for dessert.

For a gift they had magnets that looked like angels. it was mostly made out of Pasta. (A bow tie noodle for the wings, a small craft wooden ball for the head, acini de pepe for the hair, a small silver ring for the halo etc.) I did a quick search for 'pasta angel' online and didn't find the exact one, but there are lots out there.

Thanks! I love the "Spuds n Splits" idea! That would be easy and I would actually get to enjoy the guests instead of spending so much time in the kitchen!

A fun craft could be stamping cards to donate to a Ronald McDonald house. I did that with a group. You would not have to buy a lot of supplies as people share.

Paper and a few stamps are very reasonable at Walmart. We made a variety of cards ranging from birthday to get well. The families who are staying there can use them to keep in touch with their friends.

If you didn't want to do the stamping part you could print out greetings on the computer in different fonts and have the girls cut them out and glue different pieces of paper, etc on card stock to make the cards. People that do scrapbooking often have lots of "scraps" left over that can be used on cards.

Well, until you said there would be 20-30 people, I was going to suggest a tea party. I just LOVE tea parties!!! I host them from time to time, but I haven't hosted one for more than 12 people. The food can all be made in advance - scones w/butter and jam, finger sandwiches (cucumber, egg salad, and chicken salad), tomato & bacon salad, and then assorted pastries & cookies (I usually get the frozen cream puffs and make sugar cookies). It's a lot of prep work, but them you can definitely sit down and enjoy your company rather than be fixing lots of food. You might still want to consider it. I can provide recipes if you're interested. Just PM me. Good luck!

I love the tea party idea...I have been to one where everyone brings their favorite tea cup & explains where it came from or why it is sentimental to them.

Also, at our last mom/daughter function at church, we were asked to bring a baby photo of ourselves & then they were placed on a posterboard & given a #. Each guest had to guess which photo belonged to which guest. (Say that 3 times fast!)

One more thing, I think I would really appreciate this. I have a 19 mo. old daughter & having her (and also my son) has made me really realize how thankful I am to have such a wonderful mom. I would suggest getting some kind of nice cardstock & pens & giving the moms a chance to write how her daughter has changed her life or how she is thankful for her & then let the daughters do the same for her mom, thanking her for something she may not normally tell her mom. They could exchange these at the end of the event. I know I would personally appreciate something like this. Just an idea!

And now I'm not sure how old your daughter & her friends are...if they are younger then you could get an 8x10 piece of cardstock & have the moms (with their daughters help) trace her foot and then the daughters foot inside the moms. You could type or write at the bottom "Following in your footsteps". Have fun!
