Inexpensive glasses?

i use zenni. make sure you check measurements of your old frames tho so you get something that fits. after my last order from costco came warped and and can't be resolved, i'm totally done with them.

Love Walmart. I always get compliments on my J Lo sunglasses & people literally cannot believe I got them at Walmart for about $60. Went to LensCrafters once as I needed glasses quick...never again. $300 for glasses....ridiculous!

I've posted this before about eye glasses, but I don't understand how you can buy eye glasses online. They need to measure where your eye hits the lens, they need to get the right width of frame, and length of the arms, and of course adjust those arms so your glasses don't fall off, or give you sore spots on your ears.

I made sure they wrote down my PD on my scrip when I had my exam. I liked the sizing and shape of my previous glasses so I measured those frames myself and used those measurements to look for a pair with similar measurements. If they need adjusted (mine did not) most places with do it for free even if you did not purchase the glasses from them. I know both Sears Optical and Walmart will adjust them at no charge.

Out of interest how long do Walmart take to produce glasses? Do they have a lab at the store or do they send them away?

Honestly, I would call around to a few optometry offices and see if they have a deal. There is one office here that has a fair selection of frames you can get with single vision lenses for $99 and they had some really super cute ones. There must have been at least 60 frames to choose from. This place is just excellent and the customer service is top notch. I can't get glasses there anymore because I need specialty lenses and have to go to a doctor out of town; but they are so nice that they will still help me by putting the lenses in my frames when my specialist ships them to me. I guess what I'm getting at is service is worth it and you get what you pay for!

I've worn glasses for 20+ years. I got my first pair at Costco and while they are cute, I'm not happy with the quality. They get dirty constantly and are so difficult to clean. Drives me batty. Can't wait until I can get a different pair.

Wow! Thanks for all the Info!

They always say about a week but I don't think I've ever waited more than about 4 days. Might vary by location though. They send them out to be made.

Helpful thank you! I wanted to see if Inhad time on vacation.

Zenni Optical all the way!! I have a difficult prescription, too. Near sighted plus far sighted and an astigmatism. As long as you know your PD then it's easy to order. I have ordered many glasses from them, all perfect!!

Another vote for Zenni. My wife requires a specialized lens, and at a brick and mortar optical store typically charges $500 for her pair. Whereas it only cost us $80 when we ordered it from Zenni. When we first tried it, we were somewhat skeptical, but 3 years later or 10 pairs of glasses later, we'll probably order them again this coming November when they have their Black Friday sale. When my friends or co-workers noticed that I change the style of my glasses fairly often, and I simply told them I'm able to do so because some of them only cost $8, they raise their eye brows and ask me are they any good, and my standard responses is I have been using them for 3 years, and I haven't turn blind yet. And we all have a good laugh after.

I'm from the UK so have no idea in terms of where to get them from but I work in an opticians so I would shop around and get the most for your money. Most basic lenses have now got anti scratch, anti glare and UV protection included but double check so you know you are getting the right product, if her prescription is on the high side and you want to keep cost of lenses down, look for plastic frames so they can house the lens more effectively and hide some of the edge thickness, then you don't have to worry about paying more for thin lenses, anything stronger than a plus or minus 2 will give significant edge thickness in metal frames :) happy shopping
