Indianapolis to Orlando road trip Q's

Whats a good place to stop just south of Atlanta? We are staying at Marriott Harbour Lake and cant check in until 4pm so we decided not to kill ourselves, or the kids, and go all the way to Valdosta on day 1

TIFTON or is it Tipton is a very nice town maybe halfway between atlanta an valdosta seems to have nicer hotels an resturants than most of Georgia

I would not suggest staying in Valdosta or near the border. Did that one year, and everything was just lousy.

Last year when I made the trip with my aunt from Indiana down, we stopped in a town off of I-40 to have lunch with relatives. So I continued south on I-40, took some state roads and drove through the Smokey National Park. Took 64 over towards Blairsville, GA and then south from there back to I-75. It's absolutely beautiful if you don't mind the scenic tour, which added a few hrs of driving to the day.

Don't forget to use the 475 to go around Macon.

My family has been driving from Ohio to Florida for over 30 years now and we have stayed in Valdosta many, many times. I thinks it's a great place to stop, it's got plenty of hotels to choose from and a wide variety of restaurants, all right off the interstate. We've never had a bad experience there.

I agree with the previous poster who said Tifton is nice. We stayed at the Tifton Holiday Inn once as we had our dog with us. It was the nicest staff, they made us bring the dog into the lobby so they could meet her and they played with her and gave her treats, she loved it.

If we drive we have always stopped off in Valdosta in the past. We have always enjoyed our stop. Stayed in a LaQuinta Inn last drive. This trip we are stopping just south of Atlanta. Found an Embassy Suites in the McDonough area Trying to break the drive up a bit more evenly as we cant even get into our resort until 4pm.
