Indianapolis DIS Meet - Come One Come All!

Hey Aaron....put us down for bringing some fried chicken and we will also watch what everyone else is bringing to see if we need to add anything else to help out

What's going on here. No one posted in 2 days on our thread. What's everyone doing, enjoying the great weather for a change or what.:lmao:

::yes:: Yep! We went to Conner Prairie yesterday and the Indy Zoo today! It's been great outside!

We just got back from Orlando and this weather is a nice change of pace from the humidity. I'm sure it will be coming back though.

Maybe everyone went to the Johnas Bros concert tonight :rotfl:

Looking forward to the meet. 38 more days. :yay:

We were at Mounds Park yesterday.

And are you serious? The Jonas Brothers were here yesterday! My DDs will be SO disappointed! (Not that I would have taken them, I hate crowds, and I don't stay out late on work nights).

This weekend we are going to Kings Island which is a poor substitute for WDW, but still fun.

Debra

::yes:: They were at Verizon last night. No wonder traffic was so bad...

DSis took DD#1, they had a good time. DD said it was better than the DVD she got with her CD set for Christmas.

Count us in for the meet! I stumbled upon this thread and RSVP'd for my family, only to find out that we have known ADP and his family in real life for years. DUH! We've even flown back and forth together from Disney a couple times.

Tricia, Kevin, Jillian (DD7), and Cassie (DD5)

And you know us too, Tricia!!! Lauren will be so happy that Jillian is coming!:yay:

Coming out of Lurkdom to say HI to all the Hoosiers! We live in Fishers and the fairgrounds are not far at all from our house. I am seriously considering coming. I just have to convince DH and see what our Labor Day weekend plans include.

Usually we go back to our hometown area (30mins NW of Lafayette) for the Fall Festival, but neither of us is big on that idea this year. Its not what it used to be. It just that our families are both there and its a three day weekend so we like to take advantage of the time to spend with each set of parents. Plus we just had our second child so I know they will be begging us to come "home". I'd rather hang out and meet ya'll though!

Count on two more adults! DGf(Susan) and I will be there. :woohoo:

Any chance of "linking" to calypso's 2pm Dole Whip for Bawb meet, since it's happening the same day? Speakerphone at least....

Hey Jason,

That's great! I didn't even know you lived nearby.

You know that may not be a bad idea. Maybe we can get Lisa's cell phone number and call them a little after 2:00PM. I'll see if its ok with her and maybe we can set something up.

Hey guys... I wanted to be a dork and act like Kevin and give a dining review of an Indianapolis restaurant. Hope you enjoy!

We went to "Sushi on the Rocks" in downtown Indy tonight (in the same building as the ICE Lounge). It was pretty good...though I thought the atmosphere was lacking (we did go pretty early in the evening) but the food was excellent.

SOTR Indy is located on Meridian Street next to Bob's Tiki Lounge and across the street from the Claddaugh Irish Pub.

First off...when we walked into the lobby area, it smelled like sewage. They had a water feature (wall fountain, small river rocks in basin) that must not have been cleaned for some time. Needless to say, it put a pretty weird feeling in our stomachs. Our server was soft spoken and a seemed a little distant (we had to ask for a martini menu, something they apparently specialize in...) but was good about refilling our waters and attentive to our needs after the initial seating. There were about 3 other couples in the restaurant at the time we were there (about 7 p.m. on a Saturday night). The atmosphere of the place is mixed... there are very warm color tones on the walls, with very dark woods, and very subtle lighting. There are Buddha statues and "zen-features" all over this place to try and create some sort of ambience in the city. However, there are about 4 flat screens set on Headline News or (while we were there) some sort of Ultimate Fighting Championships ---- VERY distracting. (reminded of me when Kevin reviewed the Wave) Also, they were playing some sort of Alt-Rock playlist at what I thought was a high-volume (think Barenaked Ladies & Counting Crows). The atmosphere contradicted itself.

We started out with a bowl of edamame ($5.00)- pretty standard fare - nothing to brag about. We also decided to have a couple of cocktails - a Peach Blossom Martini ($10.00) and a Classy Appletini ($9.00) --- we thought these were a bit overpriced for the quality.

Then came the sushi, which we both thought was really good. We decided to just order a bunch of rolls (a la John & Kevin) to split. The two standard rolls we ordered were a California Roll ($4.99), and a Spicy Tuna Roll ($5.99). Their speciality rolls were the highlight of the night.

We ordered a Play-Boy Roll ($15.00) which is Shrimp tempura, Asparagus, spicy tuna, Spicy & Sweet Sauce; a Kona Roll ($10.99) which is Shrimp Tempura, Mango, Asparagus and Avocado; and a Dynamite Roll ($10.99) which is Fried Shrimp, Avocado, Cucumber and Crab - fried on the outside with spicy mayo and two other chef's special sauces. These rolls had 6-8 pieces each, and were full of ingredients, so we thought the prices were fair.

Here's a pic from my crappy camera phone:

My favorite was the Dynamite Roll, JC's was the Kona Roll. We ate every last bit of these rolls --- they were all great. We finished our meal with Chef John's Fruit Sushi ($3.99)...which was a regular roll (only 2 pieces) with apples and peaches cut up with some berry sauce drizzled on top. This was just okay, as they used the same rice from the regular rolls (that had toasted sesame seeds) so the bitterness threw the sweetness of the fruit/sauce all out-of-whack.

After taxes, our ticket came to $82.79. Thankfully I had a $50 gift certificate so it wasn't such an expensive date.

We will probably go back to Sushi on the Rocks --- and if you like sushi, you should try it too. Hopefully they clean out the water feature before-hand. It smelled doubly-bad when we left.

Hope you enjoyed! I can't wait to try the Sushi Bar at the POLY when we're there in September!

See you at the Dis-Meet!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooooooo...it's JaKim!!! :rotfl:

This is going to be so much fun!! We'll get to meet several of the podcast cruisers too!! We'll all be old friends by the time this cruise finally rolls around!

Thanks for the review Katie. DW Kim isn't big on fish, but if I get the shot sometime when I'm downtown I'll give it a try.

Another place which just opened up a few months ago downtown is called Fogo de Chao. It's a Brazillian restaurant where they serve you meats from the skewers. I've dined there in Downtown Chicago and just loved it. I can't wait to try it in downtown Indy.

Agree Brandie. It will be great to meet the cruisers. Just meeting everyone from the area (or should I say region) will be fantastic. I think the "birthday" cake you are bringing may turn into the size of a wedding cake. Did you see the special on the Food Network "Pixar Cakes"?

Yep...I watch all of the cake specials! Actually, one of my instructors was on one of those challenges once! :)

I'm beginning to run through ideas for potential cakes now...not entirely sure what i'm gonna do yet! I'll come up with something...

OH I hate this! It looks like we will have a volleyball commitment that day, so we are going to have to drop out. I am bummed! There is a small chance we will be able to come, but it is best to take us off the list and not count on us. I am SO sorry! Once kids get in high school it seems like they have so many commitments it isn't funny. It was so much easier when they were young.

I hope you guys have a great meet. And just maybe (but probably not) we will be able to pop in!

Debra

(Oh, I should ask, is it OK, to just show up....we really won't know until that day depending on how things go and when volleyball is over and it would be totally a last minute thing. Would that be a problem?)

Are you familiar with the Mardis Gras King Cake concept? Finding the baby?

You could make a cistern cake and whoever finds Will (another Hoosier!!) gets a prize or is crowned King/Queen! :rotfl:

That would be totally fine Debra. By the way, I'm getting ready to post the official meet time. We will have the space all day, so the meet time will be from 2:00PM until 7:00PM. If you can make it please just drop in. We may go past 7:00PM if folks wish to stay longer.
