Indestructible dog toys??

I wish I could find a fabric toy that lasted. Even the red firehose ones are gone in no time. The only things that last are the rubbery toys - the nylabones, the kongs - there are some Nerf? brand maybe that are fun. We've found some rubber balls that are great (and some that she chewed thru in minutes lol) but the balls are good because she can stay busier chasing them and it distracts her from chewing for a few minutes.

She's never actually chewed anything of ours though, no shoes or furniture - so I figure buying more toys then I should is a small price to pay.

We have a Kong Teddy Bear that has ropes inside of him instead of stuffing. That is the only toy that survived our dog's puppyhood- and she has had it for over 2 years now. She would shred everything within minutes and she is only 11 pounds full grown. Like your dog, she only likes fabric toys.

I have a ferocious chewer too, not too many toys have stood up to her strong chewing tendencies. We have lost so many of my daughters toys, Barbie and Ken looked like they were attacked by a shark. Numerous Christmas ornaments were pulverized. The kongs that are black are very durable. Moose antlers take awhile to chew through them. They are expensive but worth it as it gives them something to work on. I know others have mentioned cheap toys, but i feel that there is a huge risk if they ingest any of the stuffing or fabric. My dog will chew everything and anything, BUT some how we have not ended up at the Vets. She destroys things but for some reason does not eat them.

Getting them a lot of exercise helps too with all that pent up energy. My do usually wants to chew when she is bored so keeping the pup tired is also a good tactic. If you work and she is home alone, a doggie daycare a couple of days a week or a dog walker might be a good investment.

I second the nyla bones someone else mentioned. Those last a longggg time and my 2 dogs destroy everything else pretty easily.

We've taken in a stray, the sweetest 34 lbs of doggie... who has destroyed every toy we've given him so far. I bet I have bought $100 worth of toys so far. He even destroys those toys rated to be extra tough. Any suggestions for good chew toys, he prefers something fabric.

I have two rescues and my most recent is a power-chewer extraordinaire! He's only 20 pounds but he appears to be a mix of dachshund, pug and chihuahua. He has some awesome jaws. He has destroyed all of my elder dog's toys as well as any we have bought for him. He tears the black Kong to bits within a half an hour. The only toy that lasts more than a day are the Nylabones. But then my elder dog (who is 12 and also 20 pounds) starts chewing on them until her gums bleed. The Vet does not approve of antlers or rawhide.

We got the #10 Tuffy toys and our huge chewer has had his for years. My vet said never give Nylabone. He said in his forty years of practice he has never seen a dog hurt by rawhides but he’s had three he’s had emergencies with Nylabone. He said they are hard plastic which can cut dogs intestines if swallowed
Interesting. Our Vets, over the years, have said that rawhide is unsafe.

1.5 year old pit bull - the toy that she loves the most and that has taken all her chewing with very little damage is an old Lacrosse ball. Nothing else (except her Kong) has lasted more than a few hours unless our little dog has managed to sneak it away and hide it.

I do buy her stuffies when I find them on clearance for less than $2, they keep her busy for about an hour destroying them. Keeping her busy is critical, otherwise she goes looking for stuff to destroy.

Kong makes large yellow Tennis ball-like toys that my power chewer takes a few days to destroy.

DD's dog :dog: eats EVERYTHING, even her sofa ... the arms .... but she loves her "feral" pup.

He does not destroy these, they last a very long time ... and come in different flavors.

These are good.

Our lab likes antlers, firehose toys, and his black Kong. I put yogurt in his Kong and freeze it. He really enjoys it, but it is an outside only treat because it gets melty.

We buy a bunch of the super cheap fabric toys and keep them stocked up. Most of the time, we give her bully sticks or another type of bone to chew on and then we will give her one of the cheap plush toys to destroy because she thinks it's fun. We gave up trying to find 'indestructible' toys.

I agree about the Nylabones, but I don't give rawhides either. While Nylabones will last a long time, I prefer to give my dog bully sticks because they don't hurt her tummy and she goes absolutely crazy for them.

We have found Benebones to last well. Specifically this one (see photo) because it’s easy for them to hold and cleans their teeth well. I think the only other shape they make is wishbone.

The only stuffed/fabric toy that I have found to last is made out of fire hose.

My power chewer LOVES Benebones, but the Y shaped one. Her favorite thing to chew on.

Our pupper has the same problem. I don't have a brand name cause it same from a mom and pop store but it's basically industrial strength rope that that is woven together. Are they squeak toys he's destroying? I've noticed with our dog and a couple friends dogs is if there's a squeaker in the toy they will chew until they get the squeaker out.

I have a lab who loves stuffed toys more than anything in the world, but he goes through them so fast! I'm very particular about what I'll buy - I look for toys without squeakers and without stuffing.

The GoDog dragons and dinosaurs are actually pretty good. After Gingersnap gets the stuffing/squeakers out, he'll still carry them around like a baby doll.

"Gingersnap"... what a CUTE name!!!!

Mine's favorite are the squeak toys with stuffing so far... that's what he destroys along with the industrial strength chewing toys. My box from Chewy came today so we will see how his loot holds up. Their dog food was cheaper than Target or Walmart or any of the pet specialty stores. I'm hoping it's fresh so I can keep ordering this way. More I stay out of the stores, the less I spend!!!

It really depends on why your pup is destroying the toy. Sometimes it can mean that the dog isn't getting enough exercise and is letting out energy by destroying. Others just want the stuffing/squeaker/whatever and could care less about the rest of the toy. And others just want/need to chew something. Our last dog just destroyed stuffed toys. Some of the Ballastic/Tuffy type ones would last a while, but that was mostly because she bored of them. Our current dog just kinda gums on them. We have been able to give her some of the toys we took away to avoid them getting destroyed and she just gums em for hours. But then again, she is already progressed to the extreme Kongs and isn't even 6months yet. Rubber toys she loves to chew, but destroys them way to fast. If you can figure out why your dog is destroying it, you can find toys that don't have that. Squeakerless squeaker toys, plush toys w/o stuffing, etc.

Some vets do say that hard toys are bad for teeth. Nylabones and antlers and the like. The dog can chew them so hard they break their teeth. But others say they are fine, and avoid the dog destroying the rubber type toys (IE Kongs) and eating the bits. Some will tell you that bones and rawhides can splinter and then be swallowed.

Frozen Kongs are great. Soak some kibble in water, stuff up the bottom of the Kong, fill with the mushy kibble and top with water and put in the freezer for a few hours. It can get messy, but will occupy her for 30-45 minutes, and lets out energy when we can't get her outside.

this snake is the only "soft" toy my german shepherd has not destroyed. he also likes ropes and kongs, kong also makes a bear with a rope inside and a small amount of stuffing. Also I have found the toys that have squeakers but are described as little stuffing work better, if he tears a hole in it then I just take out the squeaker and he can still play with it under supervision instead of having to replace the toy immediately.

Since I have a 40 pound puppy, we order from chewy a lot. I buy his bully sticks there and toys, nothing so far online can beat chewy's prices on beds and crates, none of my local stores could match it. I do buy dog food from a local pet store because I like to support my neighborhood stores. They don't carry toys though. Bully sticks are digestable unlike rawhide but soft while they are being chewed and are a high protein grain free snack.
