Indestructible dog toys?

Looking for something for my young, large dog to play with that he won't destroy! I've tried the Tuff toys and he has them ripped apart at the seams within minutes. I do have the Kong and the water bottle ball but looking for other ideas to keep him busy!

It's close to impossible to find indestructible toys! I have a 1 yr old boxer and she destroys almost every toy I give her. The ones that have lasted the longest are rope toys, the Kevlar toys from Kong and Nylabones. She eventually tears those up, too, but they last a couple of months at least. I won't buy her regular stuffed toys anymore, she tears out the squeaker leaving stuffing everywhere! lol

They aren't indestructible, but my dogs LOVE these bones, and they last us quite a long time. I usually have a few added to our regular dog food shipment.

My monster hounds LOVE stuffies, but I refuse to spend petstore prices on something that they will destroy in hours (days, if I'm lucky). Instead, I go to rummage sales all summer long and pick up "human grade" stuffed animals (preferably without decoration or parts that will come off/could be swallowed). They tend to be MUCH tougher and last at least a little bit longer!

Just don't ask about the ONE time that they got a hold of a Beanie Baby

Ropes get shredded within minutes here. We have the black kongs. We had a red one to help with teeth cleaning and it last a very good long while.

The big blue or red balls with ropes through them or a triangle handle on one end lasted a long time too. The one withe the rope laser longer although the rope was shredded pretty quickly. The handle got chewed up on this one.

A friend of mine just posted on FB that she had some outgrown/damaged jeans and she made dog toys out of them. The photo looked like part of a leg tied I a knot. She has big dogs that go through toys in hours and the jean ropes had so far lasted a whole day . She figured the toys were free so however long they last it was a good investment.

If you find some let me know!!! Mine is 10 pounds of destruction! She may be small, but I have yet to find many toys that she can't destroy...and she adores toys and always has one in her mouth wherever she goes. I just cough up the money to keep buying them because as long as she has her own toys, she doesn't bother our stuff- well at least not very often. It has a squeaker that only dogs can hear which was fun for awhile as we tested it from other rooms (it worked), but that part is now busted from her chewing it. At least, he still has all his stuffing and she has had him since November and chews on him quite a bit. He was pretty expensive, but he has held up. I tried the tuffy's toys too, and like your dog, she had those pulled apart at the seams and the stuffing out the day she got them.

great post! I have a 12lb 10 month old whippet/dachshund mix and wow does he go through toys FAST. stuffed toys last about 30 minutes. he has successfully torn off and eaten parts of the red kong. have been considering trying the black kong but I have a feeling it wont last.
the only thing that stands up are Nylabones.
will be watching other posts for recommendations!!

My 85 pound golden lab loves to tear toys up. I've had the best luck with some of the Kongs (not all of them), Pet Shoppe (I think) Durables with rubber (or maybe flubber) inside, and goDog toys. He carries his goDogs around like they are his babies and can sometimes be found cuddling with them.

Our lab mix loves to tear up toys - the one that has (so far) survived is by Bret Michaels (brand is something like Pets Rock) - I got it at petsmart - it's the shape of a snake. She plays tug of war with our Newfoundland mix with it and has chewed on it a ton. So far only the tongue has gone (that went within minutes).

65 lb boxer mix and was destroying all toys. She could tear up a tennis ball in a couple minutes. We tried everything even those tough string things. THEN she got sick, had to have surgery and had a rubber chicken (we caught at Mardi Gras and was in my DS room) removed from her stomach along with tons of string that vet said was those string tug toys. We threw them all out. We only have a few Kongs now and at this point she doesn't even play with toys because we stopped getting them and won't let her have without supervision. Interesting was she never chewed on furniture or anything else but hand her a toy and she was in beast mode.

I have 2 dogs over 100lbs. One is a young Rottie with the energy level of a JRT on Redbull. He can chew through anything. We have 5 or 6 nylabones that he loves to chew. They last a few months. The good old Kongs are just OK for him. He's bored after a few chews unless there's peanut butter inside. But Kong has a line of toys called squeezz, which are nice if you have hard chewing dogs that like squeaky things. We have the squeezz sticks and while the squeakers quit after a month, the toys are holding up fine. He plays with them every day. I've also had good luck with Hard Core Fire Hose toys. They are pretty sturdy for normal toss/fetch or tug play. We have a couple different ones that have held up pretty good. They're made with several layers of recycled fire hose so a dog isn't going to chew through that too fast, but it's not indestructible. He also has a JW treat puzzle ball that's big and tough that's held up a long time. You can put kibble or small treats in it and the dog has to work to eat them. I find when the dog figures out he can make treats come out, he's less interested in destroying the toy and more interested in making it work.

My other dog however decided to cut to the chase and just eat the top off the treat jug. Swinging it around was too much work. LOL

we have a 13 pound terror that destroys toys faster then any other dog I've ever seen. Our miniature schnauzers were never this destructive, thankfully it's only toys not furniture. We just keep buying him stuff and we have some pretty pathetic looking "flat" toys around the house because all the stuffing has been removed. The toy that lasted the longest was some bear where the body body was "stuffed" with rope. I think it may have been Kong brand

Not indestructible, but they take LONGER to destroy - stuffed animals from IKEA. These will last our Scotty-poodle a few days at least, while the pet shop toys tend to go faster. We look for the ones with just stitched on eyes, and sometimes if they have "clothes" he'll spend a bit of time trying to figure those out too. Plus at a few bucks a pop its cheaper than the pet store. He also occasionally gets dollar store toys, but he works through those really quickly leaving fluff everywhere.

be careful about the stuffed toys. my son had a forty pound dog who would tear them apart and then eat some of the fluffy stuff. ds could never tell that the dog had eaten any until one day the dog was very sick and had to go to the vet. vet said his xrays showed that his stomach was full of it. it had poisoned him and nothing could be done except put him down. it was all very sad.
just take extra care with anything stuffed and if it even looks like it may be ripped, toss it. its just not worth your dogs life.

The only thing we ever found that our Pit couldn't destroy was Kong, but it specifically said on the label "pitbull tested and approved." He had it his entire life. It's still floating around outside or in the basement somewhere.

My shepherd loves lufas but kills them and pulls out all the stuffing immediately!

We had a 120 pound Malamute, who actually chewed a hole in his stainless steel water bowl!! He tore all the lattice of my moms deck. The ONLY thing he couldn't destroy was a Kong. I worked at a pet food store when those first came out, and the rep came in and gave me a giant one to test, so I could tell customers about it. The Kong outlived the dog. I now have a 15 pound chewing machine, and sadly she won't touch a Kong.

We have a 40lb lab/Doberman puppy, and she also goes into destructo-mode when handed a toy. The ONLY toy she hasn't torn parts off of is the traditional Kong. The fire house she ripped and ate the ball inside, Kong Squeez was in pieces in 10 minutes. She had a rope that lasted about a month, but as soon as she got it frayed and started pulling strings off I tossed it.

Other than that, she likes antlers and while she can put a couple of dents in the ends, she can't break off any pieces. As I'm not a hunter I was a little squeamish at first, but it's soooo nice to be able to give her something to chew without worrying about her.

My dogs love empty pop bottles. I will give them to them outside, (they especially love them in the snow). They chase them around and chew it flat. I just throw it out when they are done. T

I have a 55lb Aussie and she would annihilate any stuffy within seconds and I too worried about her swallowing the fluff. I came across the Kong "Wubba" at Petsmart. I bought it xmas eve and it lasted about 1 month BUT! it was her favorite toy ever. She pranced around with it like it was her best friend. It has a similar shape to an octopus. There are 2 balls inside, a tennis ball and a larger rubber squeaker ball. The legs are good to play tug with her or she takes it and shakes her head side to side slapping herself on the cheeks! LOL. It's really a toy that you shouldn't leave down on the floor, because eventually they will chew thru the tough nylon like mine did. When she got the larger ball out, that became her favorite and it's a pretty thick ball that she hasn't even tried to chew, she just throws it around or drops it in front of us. What she does now is push down on the ball with her nose and makes it squeak over and over They do come in 3 sizes I think, I got the largest that they had. We're going to buy another soon since she loved it so much, but we'll keep an eye on this one.
