Independence Air

We'll be using them soon. We have tickets to MCO on Jan 20 and to Tampa on March25. I have seen very good reports from people who have flown and the price is right. The airline is having financial trouble. But then again so is usair, and other airlines too.

I have flown on Independence twice. Once to Dulles and just last week I flew with my family to Orlando. The planes are clean. Supposedly they do not overbook so no worries about getting bumped. All the employees I have encountered have been very friendly. You get a drink and a choice of snacks while flying...Sunchips, cookies, pretzels, fruit bar, etc... and they give you a hot towel towards the end of the flight to clean your hands with. All the seats are leather. I have encountered delayed flights but all were situations out of the airlines control.

All in all I am very pleased with Independence Air and I will use them as much as I can. They are the only low cost carrier we have in Knoxville and I sure do hope they stay.

Thank you~ Good to know~ I was almost booked them in January 2005 but we went with Delta. We may use them in march 2005. :)

We flew Independence to Orlando in Nov. Customer service was the best I'd ever encountered with an airline. On the return our flight was delayed (due to bad weather in the DC area and they closed Dulles - totally out of the control of the airline). They put snacks out at the gate for us and kept us updated every 15 minutes.
Flew them again from Dulles to Westchester (NY) and the captain actually came out to do his pre-flight spiel in front of us instead of from the cockpit. Nice to put a face with the voice!
And the fares can't be beat...I'm just biding my time now until they start their west coast flights!

From what I know, Independence Air is having some growing pains. They have the service down right (they are ops people), but the problem is route planning. They are growing too fast and hitting into some financial problems. I really can't say whether I would book with them or not.

I saw on the news that they may have to go back to United. I was going to book them for my May trip, but figured I better hold off since their service is "up in the air" right now.

I am booked on Independence Air for our trip in April. I have been watching to see what happens with the airlines for a while now. US AIR has been flying while in Bankruptcy for a while now. So I figure if they file for chap 11 they will still be flying. So, I went ahead and booked with them. Hopefully they will have worked out things by then.

I guess I would be more concerned with Independence abandoning current routes to go back to being a feeder airline. I bet they would do that before going into bankruptcy (and that is what the people at Independence are good at, operating the planes but having someone else tell them where to go).

Hi!
I live in PW County too!
Wanted to let you know I have a few friends at Independence Air who have been keeping my posted on what's going on...so far no need to panic. They have had to shut down 2 smaller stations (Dayton and Lansing) to save money but have no plans on filing bankruptcy any time soon!

I hear nothing but good about Independence Air, absent their financial problems. I am flying with them in February and April.

I used them twice last year,JFK-RDU. I was very pleased with both flights. I'd like to use them for our April trip, but right now Airtran is less.
