We are just back from a wonderful week at SSR and I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone getting a massage at the spa there. The DVC website currently (as of today)lists the 50 minute Swedish massage at $92.00 after a 20% DVC discount. The Portable Perks we were given at check that is dated May to July 2008 says that we would get a 10% discount making it $103.50 (not including gratuities). Hmmm...
We had massages on May 6 and were charged $108.00each. When I questioned it I was told the prices had increased May 1st to $120.00 and we got a 10% discount. I pointed out that the spa brochure listed the price at $115.00 and they said they had not printed out new brochures yet.
Our massages were nice enough, but I plan to go to VWL for our next trip and get the Sturdy Branches massage for 50 minutes at $90.00 and a 10% discount and double check the price before having the massage so we have no confusion.
Interestingly enough we had Peppermint Pedicures at SSR spa on May 3rd and were charged exactly what the DVC website said we would be ($52.00- $65.00 with 20% discount) and the price was the same listed in the spa brochure.
:confused3
I made a call to DVC while still at SSR to let them know of the Portable Perks price discreptancy and the website incorrect info but never had my call returned.:sad2:

Thanks for the heads-up. Bummer that they don't honor the published price. Bummer they didn't call you back!

I agree with OP. If the price was abnormally off, say it was listed for $15 instead of $115 (where they left off a 1), I'd understand them not honoring it. However, since it was only a few dollars off, it would have been the right things to do to give you the published price IMHO. It would have also left you with a much better customer experience, which is generally what Disney's all about! Uhhhhhgggg!:headache:

:hippie: I normally "go with the flow" but the changes altered my cost by $34.00 with the price change and tip addition. That is several mickey bars in Disney speak! ;) I'm mainly concerned that the webpage and Portable Perks have things wrong. If someone is doing a budget for any DVC perks for several people it can really alter things.

This happened to uslast year. The portable perks listed 20% discount but at SSR they said it was only 10%. As it was we didnt pay any more, just left the tip off. worked out the same price in the end.

:scared1: YIKES! The poor therapist who did the work has no control over the prices or policies about the perks. And although you paid a good amount for the service, the therapist doing the work usually gets about $20 of it. Tips are a big deal in the service industry.

We got a full 20% off our massages last year and they were certainly worth the tip :)

Claire ;)

I just checked the DVC site myself...and yes, it shows the cost being 20% off...$92.00 for DVC members. And my Portable Perks shows the same, except my Portable Perks were valid February to April.

They really need to have a plan to change all the places that list the prices AT THE SAME TIME. If they've printed up new Portable Perks showing prices and discounts for May through July, then it should stay that way through July, and the same should be reflected online (isn't that easy to keep updated? no printers involved!) and in their brochures, even if that means throwing out (recycling :thumbsup2 ) the old ones, no matter how many they still have on hand.

This type of thing is a huge pet peeve of mine. DH and I went to buy a treadmill at Dick's Sporting Goods and found out it was a different price at the checkout, and the service contract was 3 times what the sticker on the display said. When we brought it to the attention of the manager, he just went and pulled the prices on the displays and said "They're old prices." :confused3 We have not, and will not, return to Dick's. (And got a treadmill elsewhere. :thumbsup2 ) And I'd have a VERY hard time not "expressing myself" at the spa about the discrepencies, especially AFTER having the treatment done; it's the principle of the thing. Altho, I wouldn't want to ruin the relaxing experience I'd just had either.

In a firm voice, you should have said, "AND YOU ARE GOING TO HONOR THOSE PRICES IN ORDER TO KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS, AREN'T YOU"

It usually works.;) If it doesn't, I hope you asked for the address of the company president, who, ;) I'm sure, would want to know that Mr. Smith, his manager at that particular Dick's, wasn't interested in keeping his customers.:scared1:
