Best new item that I added to my packing list for this last trip...

We had a lazy morning on departure day and a couple of early eveinings spent back in the room and loved being able to hook up my laptop to the TV and watch a couple of Disney movies in bed!

Definately beat watching the limited options that were available.... :cool1:

Wow, I didn't know the TVs could do that!

My bestie and I will be in the World next month and we love watching Tv together. Since the parks will be on reduced hours by then, it might be nice for me to bring my new MacBook Air and watch some tv in the evening.

Thanks for the tip!

Wait! What is an HDMI cable? Do you mind explaining? THANKS SO MUCH! Brunette

DH does this all the time. We have a special hookup for our iPods so we just plug that into the tv. Charges the pod and he gets to watch a movie while I sleep.

An HDMI cable is the new common type of cable to hook up HD TV's. Its like a real fancy USB cable on a computer.

The best place to buy them is monoprice.com, best buy and places like that will try to sell you $60 HDMI cables with gold plated tips and shielded wires. But that stuff only helps on older analog cables like the screw in type TV cable. With HDMI you either get a perfect signal sent to your TV or no signal at all. So if you want one of those cables just order from mono price for like $2, dont belive what anyone says about a cable that costs more than $5

High-Definition Multimedia Interface

It's the connection cable used by High definition TVs.

Looks like this:

Good call on monoprice 'Fett. I buy from them all the time. For the price of one Monster HDMI cable I can buy about 20 or more from monoprice.

For those of you looking to buy one as long as the cable has the HDMI logo on it will perform as well as any other HDMI cable at any price. Digital cables either work or they don't. No such thing as better color/sound, etc with digital cables.

Anyway, I'm surprised the WDW Tvs have external connectors. Most commercial-type sets don't have anything other than what the hotel wants on them.

And, while we're at it...

Not all laptop computers (or many other video playback devices) have HDMI outputs to begin-with.

Some of the resort TV's don't have HDMI connections. Some have the Yellow, Red and White connections and some don't have any.

Most laptops have VGA outputs as do a lot of the resorts. Ebay beats everyone on cable prices though. If you can wait a couple weeks for shipping.

So to be clear, the TVs may or may not have an HMDI output and my computer may or may not have a portal for the HMDI cable?

The TV's may or may not have an HDMI INPUT
and your computer may or may not have a portal for the HMDI cable.

There are at least 6 different kinds of connections possible
(some analog, some digital) that can allow a resort TV to display
the output from a computer (playing a DVD or streaming video) or other video device.

RF (TV channel 3 or 4)
Composite (plus audio)
Component (plus audio) HD or SD
S-VGA (plus audio)
HDMI
Digital Multi-pin (Computer monitor output)

And, knowing exactly which of those (and others) will be common to both
the resort TV and your video player device can be a guessing game.

It's a jungle of connectors out there! ;)

I just left Sports and I didn't see a DVD player. I didn't check the TV for inputs because I didn't have any cables to use, but it looked like the type that would have HDMI.

As for DVDs, I digitized all mine. They're boxed up in storage and now I only buy digital media. :)

Wonderful!:rolleyes::headache:

We really need a sarcasm emoticon!

If it's a Flat screen TV - which just about every refurbished Disney room now has ( I know AS Movies still had old school tube TV's last year) it has at least 1 HDMI port. Our at Pop Century had 3

If you're notebook is less than 2 years old - it most likely has an HDMI port on it...

Words of advice fom a Notebook Product Manager :)

Nope, only hotel room I've had one in was a one bedroom tower club suite at the Contemporary resort
