Great start to Day 5!!!
Wooohoooo about the prospects of another trip!!! How fun!!!!!!!!
I hope Jen gets her wish and gets that trip! I think she will.
Wow Mary Ellen!! That is beautiful!!! You did good! I really think the new cabinet fronts with the hardware are really pretty!!
Thank you. I am very pleased. I went with a basic door and a stain that I though would match the floors. After I picked out the hardward I got nervous and asked to change to knobs, but he had already ordered the handles, so I went with it. I am glad I did.
Love the kitchen pics! What a great job they did! I like the new cabinet fronts and hardware, looks like something I would've picked. Taking out the overhead cabinets was a GREAT IDEA! It really opens up the kitchen. You must walk into that room and smile every morning. I know I would! How do you like the granite countertops? I'm thinking of doing something like that but I haven't decided yet. I don't know if I could have a cooktop instead of a whole stove. Well, it wouldn't matter what I thought, Ethan does the cooking. But I don't think he could either
It was a great idea to take out the overhead cabinets. Now the peninsula has three pullouts in it (actually 6 all together in sections of 3), so I really got all the storage space back because its much more organized.
I love the granite. It doesn't show the dirt and its very pretty. Its actually elegant and I am glad that he talked me into granite. Honestly, I didn't care at first because I just wanted to get rid of those horrible blue formica countertops.
The jen-air had to go back in the island. There was no other place to put it. I am happy with it now, but I would prefer a kitchen that had a regular stove.
LOVE the kitchen pics. I have to go back and read about your trip... I was distracted by the kitchen pics. I see your slow cooker going on the counter... any good recipies to share?
Denny was making a bean soup that was quite tasty and weight watcher friendly!
OK... so questions on the remodel. I think you said you had a friend of a friend serve as contractor? Did you go with granite for the countertops? Did you also get new appliances? How long did the project take? I am dying to kick off my own remodeling project!
I hired the contractor. I actually didn't know him, but he knows some people who live in my development and as soon as I called for recommendations, I knew I wanted him. Actually, as soon as he came over I knew he was the guy. He and his father do all the work themselves. I did not want any subcontractors. Of course, the granite went to a subcontractor, but he only uses one granite/tile store.
The backsplash was tiled by my friend after the kitchen was done. It saved me some $ and his installer did a great job.
The electric work was done by a friend of Dennys. He had to change fixture, recenter them, add new fixtures, hook up the stove, ect.
The painting was also down by 2 different people that Denny knows.
The initial painting tool two days and then the remainder of the painting (ceiling, soffets, and family room took 2 days).
The kitchen work started on a Monday. Exactly 15 days later the counter top went in and on the same day he installed the door and drawer fronts. The first and last day of the job were when I saw the most amount of work. The first day was crazy cause you walk back in and everything is gone. Then over the next couple days he sanded down the remaining woodwork and then refinished it. The two cabinets beside the sink were completely removed and he took those to the shop. He actually completely replaced them and they are gorgeous. He put in 6 pull outs and a garbage can pull out. He replaced all the hardware. He basically told me he could do everything with the existing boxes that he could do if he built new cabinets because everything was wood. He was extremely helpful in coordinating the project and helping me make decisions. Plus they were very neat and left little to no dust around.
The hardest thing about the remodel was not being able to wash any dishes. I had to wash in my powder room or downstairs tub. I HATED that. Its just gross.
I forgot to mention that the appliances I replaced were the stovetop in the island (Jenair) and I bought a combo oven / microwave. I already had the stainless frig. I also got a beautiful new sink with a very deep bowl for washing big dishes.
I also love the granite. I definitely say go for granite. Its a big chunk of change but its so beautiful. I love looking at it.
Hope you are all enjoying it. It looks great! Love the hidden mickey!
totally enjoying it. I love sitting on the bar stools to work on the computer. It faces into the kitchen and I spend a lot of time here. Love it! No regrets.
oh it's LOVELY!
What great news all around and pretty pictures....I may just have to stop by for a glass of wine. No fun having a mickey stopper if you can't put it to good use!
Thank you.
Maybe I should bring the mickey stopper in May. Better yet - maybe I should just buy another one! I think they have Mickey heads with pretty swirly colors in them!
Oh, I love the Halloween decorations at MK! I can't wait to go in October!
You are going to LOVE it!
And Mary Ellen, your kitchen is beautiful!

Love the Mickey wine cork thing (I don't know what those are called, I'm not a big wine person, I'll have to ask my DH, he knows everything about wine

)!
Thank you. I am very pleased with the kitchen. I have to put off adding DVC points, but its totally worth it.
And yes - its a wine stopper. I love looking at it. It cheers me up!
QUOTE=manntra;39475044]Oooh I just love your new kitchen!!!! I love the cabinets.....I have some Mission/Craftsman style furniture in my house and that is what they remind me of....

Your granite choice is so pretty and the backsplash tiles complement nicely

I love your cooktop and that would really inspire me to cook more

So would the wine on your countertop

You must be so thrilled to have it all done.....I would have been a wreck with things in disarray....I think that is the major thing holding me back from doing a lot so I will just do small changes

I am very please with the cabinet fronts. I saw some beautiful fancy ones that I liked, but I had to think about the house. I have a cape cod, so it would have been silly to go completely over the top.
I am very happy with the backsplash considering the tumbled stone is something my friend already had in his shop. I only ordered the inlays, so that saved me a chunk of change!
Being in disarray was annoying, but I have already forgotten about it. The worst thing was not having a sink for two weeks and having to wash dishes in the bathroom/powder room. That was gross. I used all paper plates at first but then I tried to use more of my own dishes once the microwave and stove were going.
