I thought I'd share my idea of how to get my kids to do their chores and get them excited for their first cruise at the same time! I printed off "disney bucks" (cute little dollar bills with Mickey's face on it!) Everytime they do what their told, go above and beyond, or I catch them doing something nice for someone I reward them with a disney buck. Once we get ready to cruise they can turn the "fake money" in to real dollars to spend on their vacation. Their saving for their vacation & I'm getting a clean house! :rotfl2:

If they have a Disney Store in your area, you can by Disney Dollars at face value. They can be used at any Disney location. I have given them to my nieces and nephews for trips and they loved them. That way they could pay for whatever they wanted with their "special" money.

Stupid question, but here goes...Can you use Disney Dollars on the cruises? :confused3

I did the same thing when we went to WDW last year. It was great. Everytime they wanted something, and sometimes it was foolish things, I told them to use their Disney dollars and that made them think twice about wasting money. A little subliminal financial teaching happenin' there. It worked.

Good luck. Great idea.

I'm not sure if you can use the actual Dis dollars on the ship....they would occasionally lose a dollar or two so I prefer to give them the photocopies and exchange it for real money once we're on the ship.

MickeyFan66 - Thanks. Wow, with more than 1 year before we set sail, we could rack up some bucks for spending. I love getting the Disney Dollars because you can't use them anywhere else. And, if you get $20/week, it doesn't hurt so much. Catch my drift? Thanks for the info.

That's a neat idea!

When I was a kid, my mom used to hide money under items sitting on shelves, etc. to ensure that we actually picked things up and moved them while dusting. That's another idea you can do with the money. If they don't clean well enough, they won't find it.

Yes - at guest services. I can't imagine that any of the crew would like to receive their tips in Disney Dollars - stick to real money when tipping! None of the goods and services availiable for purchase on the ship is set up to accept cash (or Disney Cash) - just the KTTW cards.

Great Idea! Where did you get your disney bucks? Can you email them to me? I would love to do that with my boys!

This is a great idea and we used it for our last cruise! We got Disney Dollars at the Disney store, and paid the kids with them on Fridays(payday). We had a chore list for each child, and if I had to nag to do chores, they had to pay me! Didn't take them long to get the chores done without nagging. They were happy to have their own spending money. I was happy to have the chores done!

Tink11,

I love the chores idea. Especially the part that they have to pay me if they nag!!! Excellent! How old are your kids, though. Mine are 9 and 5...two boys. Do you think that would work? I love these ideas.

And so when you grew up, packed up, and moved out did you come across a bonanza of dusty dollars?
