Inauguration Day!!!

I sorta liked the bow. :thumbsup2
I hated the poet. Her poem didn't even rhyme. The last preacher was awesome. "Yellow can be mellow. Red can get ahead."
Your mean...

"When brown can stick around. When black doesn't have to go to the back. When yellow can be mellow. When the red man can get ahead man. When white embraces right".

By Rev. Joseph Lowry? Thought it was pretty untasteful.

Anyway, loved the rest of the inauguration! Bush's speech was longer than Obama's though, lol.

Although I didn't find it distasteful when he said it, I understand where you come from.

I took it as those were all sayings from the 60's-70's movements, and he was showing how far we come. It was, however, a controversial line to say.

Yup, that's the one.

Yeah, it is an old saying, but this guy is stuck in those times, IMO. He's very bitter.

I am surprised that Obama's administration didn't check on what the speakers were going to say. They never would've let Lowry say something that controversial.

I was FORCED to watch it at school.
:scared: :scared:
The kids were cheering and stuff
I was like....Oh great, this is gonna be the next four years :sad2:
I was sitting next to all my friends who also wanted McCain, it was hilarious what they said about him :lmao:
But anyways, yes i watched it and it was one of the worst moments of my life :sad1:

I love Bush lol, in his speech yesterday he was basically saying that he may have done some stuff we ddin't agree with, and wasn't the best, but at least he made hard decisions.
Hard decisions is basically in the job description bud.

He looked so po-ed through the entire thing lol.

I was watching his press conference a couple days ago and wow. He is definitely leaving the office a little bitter. He was practically yelling to the reporters that his actions will be looked upon better in history. And about how whatever decisions he had made, he would've still been criticized for them.

I feel bad for him, but oh well. He made his bed, let him lay in it.

Funny. That's how I felt the second time Bush took office. ;)

Thats bassically all we did in school today other than this great Marthur Luther King Assembly
When I walked into school today it was playing on the tv of Obama leaving with Bush since I live on the West Coast and theres a 3 hour difference
Then our teacher said in French we can either continue watching the French movie or watch the ceremony and we chose the ceremony...
Which was really a pointless 60 minutes since all that was happening was famous peoplewalking into the Capitol...
Then finnally 1 minute before the bell rang Obama walked in...
Then we watched Obamas speech the swearing in the next period in Science since that was history and at that second more important than science lol...
Then we had a MLK assembly which had nothing to do with MLK
Then we had band so we missed it
Then the next period we were watching it and heard about Tedd Kennedy being tooken away on a stretcher
Then we watched more the rest of the day...
They should of just given us the day off because it was a waste...

The "white embraces right" line peeves me. I don't know much about the man who said it, but if it was meant the way I'm thinking, then it's pretty dang ignorant.

How can you say that? A black man is now the POTUS, when not 50 years ago, he would've been treated like a 2nd class citizen.
Who gives a rats posterior about political beliefs? Do you KNOW how epic this accomplishment was?

that used to be the saying. "white is right. black get back. if you're yellow youre mellow, if you're red you're dead. if you're brown, stick around."

black get back refers to the back of the bus.
yellow is mellow refers to the asians easily being forcefully pacified in ww2
brown sticking around is the hispanics trying to get involved in the civil rights movement.
reds being dead is the slaughter of native americans.
and white is right is the forced supremacy of the caucasians over other races.

that man marched along dr. king to end that saying. today, that saying has finally been proven wrong. black no longer has to "get back" and he has every right to say so. he fought his fight and now he can reap the benefits.

it is NOT distasteful. the only thing that should leave a bad taste in your mouth is that the saying ever existed in the first place.

I definitely do not agree with his political agenda HOWEVER....

I think today is definitely a historic day! I find is very exciting!

I wish Obama all the best, as I know this is quite possibly the most stressful job ever. Good health to him and his family.

BTW, his daughters are super cute! I saw they are having a slumber party tonight. How fun!

“We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right.”

"But because we know you got the whole world in your hand, we pray for not only our nation, but for the community of nations. Our faith does not shrink, though pressed by the flood of mortal ills."

"For we know that, Lord, you're able and you're willing to work through faithful leadership to restore stability, mend our brokenness, heal our wounds and deliver us from the exploitation of the poor or the least of these and from favoritism toward the rich, the elite of these."

"And now, Lord, in the complex arena of human relations, help us to make choices on the side of love, not hate; on the side of inclusion, not exclusion; tolerance, not intolerance."

"Help us then, now, Lord, to work for that day when nation shall not lift up sword against nation, when tanks will be beaten into tractors, when every man and every woman shall sit under his or her own vine and fig tree, and none shall be afraid; when justice will roll down like waters and righteousness as a mighty stream."

"Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellowm when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right."

A very good benediction, indeed.

i really enjoyed it.

Alrighty then. I didn't know the meaning behind the saying, but now I do and it makes sense.

The guy who said when "white embraces what is right" I was like WTH?! He needs to get out of the past. How can we ever move forward if he keeps bringing up past grievances. That was not the time or place to say that. How unclassy.

I really feel bad for President Bush. How horrible is it that people actually booed him when he walked out...my gosh show him some respect in his last moments in office. I've always liked Bush though as a person and I've always found him to be likeable. I haven't always agreed with his policies though. He kept us safe for 7 years after 9/11 and I think he should be commended for that. I'm one of the "crazy" few who thought he did alright with what he was given.

if whites didn't embrace what was right, black people would have never been free, let alone given the oppertunity to vote or run for office. whites did march along dr. king and embrace what was right.

if you don't understand the statement, go look it up. don't bash it until you understand what he's saying.
