Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Does anyone know the time breakdowns for the different corrals? Is it by finish time, as they did ask for an estimate when we registered, or by pace?

Also, any idea if there will be any PhotoPass people at the post-race party? I don't want to lug my camera through the race, and the camera on my phone has no flash.

Thanks ( :

Is there a difference between estimated time and pace or am I missing something? [ADDED] I am missing something - Corrals are assigned, you cannot simply enter the start based on your best guess of pace.

Regardless, don't have a breakdown by corral until the waiver notice is posted. Then given the mass of folks on the forum one can start to understand what it looks like. The breakdown is by estimated time with the fastest folks in the A corral and so on. The last corral will contain both, those without an estimated time and those who estimated a race faster than 2:45 and never furnished proof of time.

Not sure if they will have a wave start in addition to the corrals but would assume that they will… they have fallen in love with wave starts and this course will be tight for the first ¾ mile without one.

Not sure about photo pass folks… Generally, no for events such as this. Disney will have ASI photographers on site during the race…but if you are not bibbed, finding your photo will be a mess. Probably not the answer you wanted but I would think ASI would have some exclusivity agreement with the race.

Good luck marathonmommy! I really admire you doing two halfs so close together!

Thank goodness for this thread! So confused?!?:confused3DH and I have never run a race and there are so many pre-race details. I also assumed we could take a cab. I guess we'll have to take a bus from AKV to Epcot and then head on over on a bus from there. We're just going to have to leave the resort much earlier than anticipated. I just wish that they would send more info out clarifying things like transportation and waivers. We're only 2 weeks out. I agree with the poster - they should try to make at least a little easier on us.

Packing my gear...hoping I make it through on Sunday! Philly Rock n' Roll - felt confident and excited on Tuesday. Haven't done a long run in what feels like forever. Struggled with a short run last night, decided to turn around, and went home. Hope I still "got it" come Sunday!

good luck...you will do GREAT!!! :thumbsup2

So I did my first 9.1 mile walk today...and at a 13 minute pace...I am so excited...I did my GU 1/2 prior to walk and another at lap 5 (ea lap is 1.3 miles)...was hydrated and felt great all the way through!

All this is so new to me...and I am really enjoying the training and so looking forward to the event!

Sounds like you are doing awesome, you will have a lot of fun at the half! I think we will probably be around the same pace :goodvibes

Look at the race course. The only way into the start IS the race course.

You are right...I looked after reading your post, makes sense..just wanted to say thank you for all of your very helpful posts throughout this thread!! I have appreciated it!:cutie:

Here is my take on it (it is just an educated guess):

You will be able to take a cab to the WWoS for the expo no problem but on race day only Disney transportation will be allowed in for logistical reasons. What I would do for the start is either get to a host resort and take the bus, get to Epcot and take the bus, of take a cab to the entrance of WWos and get out there. You'll just have to walk down the entrance road to the start area. Since I would get there about 2 hours early anyways you have plenty of time and that can count as part of your warm up.

Yikes! My husband was going to drive me to WWOS, is that not allowed? It seems ludicrous to me that I couldn't take my own transportation to the start!

After my last post I realized that someone was saying that personal vehicles wouldn't be allowed into the Epcot Parking lot! What!!!! Dh plans to pick me up there after the race.

I simply don't understand this. We will be staying offsite that night, how in the world does Disney expect people to get to their non-Disney resorts!

On a good note, I did 13 miles this morning, and I'm still able to move. :goodvibes

Congrats on the run...

I am not sure you read correctly that personal vehicles are not allowed in Epcot... Epcot parking is where Disney wants drivers to park. WWoS the start will not allow personal vehicles due to the race course logistics. The website indicates taht personal vehicles hitting Epcot parking after 6 pm on race day can park free.

So, Bingham will be speaking at the expo today. If I've read all his books, do I take the time out of my day to hear him speak?

Oh, I love him! I saw his facebook pics of the Philly expo!

Headed out for a 5 miler in a bit (I'm a 1st leg runner)!

Question for all of you - DH and I planned to run with our ipods - the music really helps us keep our pace. This is our first 1/2 and my first race. When looking at the race website, it said that although you can wear head phones it discourages the use of them so you can hear race messages. What do you guys do - music or no music? Does WDW have music and entertainment along the way? Off to go do my last longer run. Thanks for your advice.:goodvibes

My poor tired brain.:rotfl:Thanks for clarifying for me.
So I can take a bus from Epcot to the start, the Dh can pick me up in the Epcot parking lot....very doable.

I always run with music.

I *will* be running with an iPod - I don't care what Disney says. However, I have headphones/earbuds that allow me to hear what's going on around me. :D

And I must be weird because I haven't thought AT ALL about how I'm getting to the race. Perhaps 'cause I'm staying at a host resort, or perhaps it's because I've got 2000 other things going on. :) I'm confident I'll get there. :D

Good note?! :goodvibes That is awesome! Congrats!

I have had my playlist set for over a mth now for the 1/2....I can adjust my sound on my headphones very easily..they said they "discourage" I think...I KNOW hearing the Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling"..will get me through the last 3 miles...even if its over and over! LOL
I even added the theme from "Rocky"!

John's very entertaining and inspiring - definitely worth taking the time out of your day to hear. And if you have the chance to speak to him be sure to mention that you are a part of WISH Racing Team - he is very familiar with our group.

The headphone thing blew up three years ago when USATF took their long standing 'headphones are forbidden" policy and asked race directors to enforce the rule. It was kind of like trying to herd cats since no one had really enforced the rule for a few years. A few did enforce in 07 and one (Twin Cities) actually disqualified all runners who wore them in the marathon that year. The policy is now 'modified' to more of “Headphones are discouraged due to audio messages that are placed throughout the course to ensure your safety.”

I generally do not wear them. I would rather talk and have fun on the course rather than immerse myself in whatever is on the ipod at that moment. Frankly, Disney has enough entertainment on course that by the time I think I might need the boost they could provide Disney has provided.

I think it a personal choice and if you need the motivation then go for it. But I as a fellow runner do ask that you keep the volume low enough so you can hear what is going on around you. You NEED to hear race instructions from any course worker as well as emergency crews (though in the dark you will see the flashing lights if a vehicle needs access). More importantly you need to hear what your fellow runners are saying. You need to hear “on your left, right, hold you line, your shoe needs tied” or any other communication. It can be aggravating when coming up behind a flock of runners all plugged in and run/walking in unison and not be able to let them know you need just a little space for a pass. Also, do not be miffed if I try to talk with you while running. It’s a thing I do….its kind of my vocal IPod. Since I talk while leading a run group or spin class it is hard to not talk. I apologize up front for this.

The bottom line is that Disney and most races will not DQ you for headphone use. Others still do and will. So read the race instructions and comply with what the RD is saying.

We finally got our 10 miler in today and it was not fun. I am feeling a little discouraged right now. I am finding it hard to get out the door in the first place, and once I am there it is harder than it was for a while. My pace has slowed and and I'm just not enjoying running like I had been. Anyone else been there? How did you get through?
