Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I do have mild asthma problems, but it's not anything that I'm on any normal inhaler for. I've been having the breathing problems all summer, not just when I'm running. That's just when it's the worst.

I think our asthma problems are similar. I had an inhaler as a kid, but hated the side-effects, so I just refused to use it and never went back. It was never super bad, mostly just annoying. After my allergy issues this spring and then the humidity this summer, I broke down and went back to my doctor for an inhaler. It was to the point where I was wheezing after every long run, and she was happy to prescribe. I might only use it once or twice a month, but it's definitely nice to have.

Personally, I've been on the treadmill as of late. Did 7 miles on the treadmill this past Saturday, heading back for another 4 tonight. It's boring, but I try to pick a treadmill where I can see the people melting in the heat outside, and then I remember why I'm inside.

I might have to cave and go to the doctor. I'm just so sick of walking around everywhere this summer feeling like a 10 lb weight is sitting on my chest. It's draining all the energy from me.

Congrats to those of you getting in those 8 milers! That's great.

Has anyone else been having difficulties this summer running in the humidity? This is only my second summer running, and last summer was much cooler and less humid. I had been doing my runs with no problems.

This summer the humidity has been awful here in CT, even when we occasionally get a day that's been a bit cooler. I try to run, but in a matter of seconds it seems I am gasping futilely for air. I do have mild asthma problems, but it's not anything that I'm on any normal inhaler for. I've been having the breathing problems all summer, not just when I'm running. That's just when it's the worst.

My goal for the half is to do 1/1 intervals, but with my breathing problems I'm having difficulties doing that. I went out Sunday to do 5 miles, and was only able to do about half of it with the intervals. My breathing was so bad I thought my lungs where going to explode and I had to walk. I hate feeling so hindered by something out of my control. My legs feel strong!

I think I'd go to the doctor and get an inhaler, or maybe do the treadmill if it's bothering you this much. I have trouble with cold air. I can usually make it through a run, but then I will cough for an hour and get a rash all over my legs. I solved this by running on the treadmill when it's really cold, but since we're doing longer runs now, I might end up talking to my doctor about it this winter. It's probably going to be humid during the wine and dine, so maybe having an inhaler just in case would be a good thing.:goodvibes Hang in there.

I'm having a very difficult time running in this humidity... I know I better get used to it though because Florida is just humid!

Does anyone have ideas as to the average temp. at night in October in Orlando?

I think the night time run should cut some of that heat as you wont have the sun beating down on you, but I'm worried about the humidity.

Looks good! Thanks for posting this.

Frank, thanks for the posting the weather data. At last year's Race for the Taste, according to a DISUnplugged Blog, on Oct. 11, the temp was around 75 degrees with 97% humidity at the 7am start. It was a very hot morning to say the least. :crazy2:

Here's hoping for cooler temps and lower humidity! :thumbsup2

Thanks for posting that,

I am mainly worried about the humidity, I think though I could handle it in 70-80 degree temps and not 90 and above

Has anyone have information from Disney on what will be happening during the after party?:confused3

Mickey buys you a beer. :ssst:

I wouldn't count on the 16 oz or even the beer. I believe the mouse said a very non-specific drink.

Actually I am wrong it is (from the website.)
One (1) Complimentary "Taste" and one (1) complimentary "Sip" at the Finish Line Party

I wonder if we get sippy cups? :confused3

Dang fine print. I need to get the bifocals checked

You know.....for $135 a pop, you'd think Disney could let us have at least TWO "tastes" and "sips". ;) If I recall correctly, we got like 3 or 4 "tastes" at the Race for the Taste and that was only a 10K. I can't recall if we got any "sips". Really, it won't matter much to me. By the time I finish, it might all be gone anyway and plus....it will be way past my bedtime so I doubt I will want too many "sips" if I want to remain upright.

Best beer I have had in a long time came in the finish line area of the SA RNR Marathon. It was a bad run on a bad day and just not fun. Its the first race I thought about walking off course and would have as my hotel was on the course at mile 8. But I picked up a struggling runner about a mile before the hotel an she sensed that I was about to leave. I think I was looking to the left and seeing if I could jump through the crowd, she saw me and said, "Oh not you don't you made me start running agin now you are staying with me to the bitter end" My reply was xxxxxx

I imagine many of the shops in the pavilions will be open, Disney won't turn down a chance to sell you something. I cold see the pavilions with movies not showing them but would imagine Maelstrom will be running. If you consider there are only two real "rides" and the one in Mexico kind of sucks I think it is a safe bet.

Of course if it is hot I will be hoping Mexico is opened so I can go in and cool off (and maybe take a dip in the fountain).
