Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I really, really hope that Orlando has a freezing spell come October 2nd. I did a 3 mile race tonight in 87 degrees, and it was truly not fun.

I agree, but i've found that it's not so bad when the sun isn't out. I had a really great 5 miles the other night right around sunset about the same temp. I think the fact that it's at night with be great!

Don't say that!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are bringing up terrifying memories for those of us who ran in the snow, sleet, and freezing rain last January! :scared1:

For those of you staying at WDW for the race:
Did you book with the Marathon discount? Did you book on your own and get free dining?

I received a free dining PIN in January and booked on that. I am buying an AP on this trip so have been patiently waiting for AP rates to come out, but it only covers the first 2 nights of my trip. So it looks like I'll stick with free dining.

Um I think the majority of us that ran in January would disagree with the running in that freezing cold spell you mention. :scared1:

As for the Park discussion I think we all assumed we would be running the majority of this race without seeing anyone (Other than other runners) cheering outside of Disney putting Volunteers and Cast Memebers in the other parks.

What I still find odd about this race is we don't have an official race map and we don't have any idea what will really be open at the after party.

BTW welcome to all the Newbie WISHers!!!

I booked the free dining package. It was a much better deal for us than the marathon discount.

I actually thought last January's half and full were fun. I would pick that weather over 2007's scorcher.

I really do not find the lack of map odd but what is acutally open post race I do. Recently Disney has not posted new courses very early, allowing for late certification revisions, permit issues, etc.

Here's my guess based on the description

And another that I originally laid out - note I do not think they will push us through the back end of AK at night.

Of the two I think I would prefer the second version listed here. It has fewer miles in the AK parking lot ---- But it will not work for the exchange point location as posted on the Disney site

Yes I've seen those and they are helpful, but I still don't see why they can't post the map. I mean it's on their property and all right? :thumbsup2 It's really not a big deal as I'm running it either way. :lmao:

I don't expect anything to be open in Future World though. Just some pavillions and the Food Carts in each of the countries.

Oh yeah and the Marathon was fun and the half while fun wasn't fun after. I also thought the cold kept alot of us from meeting up before and after the race which to me is all a part of the experience. Those family reunion tents before each race were pretty empty unlike the two previous years.

I too would rather have the cold then the heat for a run but I could deal without the frozen water all over the course at the waterstops. Mid-40's would be my pick for marathon weekend, at least the morning of the runs.

I thought free dinning was ending before the weekend of the W&D, did it get extended?

Free dining ends 10/2. You need to be checked in by 10/2 to get free dining for the entirety of your stay.

I took advantage of the free dining, ill be down the full week before the race and leaving on 10/3.

I have a new appreciation for those who go to WDW during the summer months...we went to busch gardens in VA yesterday and it was about 100 degrees out...ugh forget even enjoying it

I can't believe you did a race in that heat last night. At least the humidity wasn't that bad, but still I broke a sweat walking to the pizza place a block away.

I agree, I would rather have it be cooler than hot. I've taken to the farmer's almanac and hoping that it's correct (it says Fair). Yup I'm crazy.

We were at WDW last year for the same week (within a day or so) and they broke record highs almost every day--mid to upper 90s. It was a little warm.:thumbsup2 I am trying to think positively, and hope that maybe they will only have normal highs this year. It does make a big difference when the sun goes down. We waited to do our evening run until 8:10pm this week. It was 90 when we started, but by the end it was pretty comfortable. I think it was 85 when we got back in the car at around 9:30.

Is anyone else nervous about tripping in the dark? I'm sure there will be lights, but I'm a little clutzy and don't want to spend the whole race looking at the ground.:rotfl:

I'm not too concerned about the lighting as most of Disney's marathons/halves start (and some stay for awhile) in the dark since they start so early in the morning and from the pictures I've seen everything looks well lit.

I can handle the heat (even though I complain about it :rolleyes1) more than the cold. I prefer to run in 50-55 degree weather but I am glad that this race is at night so I don't think it should be too bad (I mean it was 98 degrees and 100% humidity when I started my run yesterday but it wasn't too bad since the sun was almost gone).

I rented points to stay at AKV Kidani which ends up being $160 a night and I haven't figured out if I'm going to pay OOP for meals or get the counter service or regular dining plan. I do have a few ADR's but I won't probably keep them if I do end up going by myself (which is most likely).

I went to a running store today (I had off today). I got a great pair of shoes and it was a very neat process (running barefoot on the treadmill, measuring my foot and arch, running outside and back on the treadmill with different shoes). I learned more about my feet today than I ever cared to know .

What website are you guys going to to find out info about discounted tickets for runners?
