Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I'm actually NOT planning on eating dinner either... I just wanted to run in the evening time to see how I felt. I was not paying attention to my eating habits and thought it would be a little light hearted note :lovestruc

my other thought is: maybe moving in the middle of June while you are trying to train for a half marathon in October is not the best idea either:teacher: I just hope I learn:confused3

Thank you all for the words of encouragement! We have been trying to decide which plan to follow and have been leaning towards Bingham's. The only thing I don't like about it is that I would prefer to run 4 days a week (like I have been) and his plan is only for 3 days.

I'm following one of his plans . . . the running one I think. It has me running 5 days a week. Maybe be sure to look at the other plans he offers.

I'm running the Philly Half on Sept. 19 and am really considering doing this. What do I do in between weeks in terms of training? I've got one bad knee (with 3 surgeries) so I'm hoping I will be okay. I'm sure I will be...I'm just viewing Philly as one of my "long runs", I guess.

If I do, I will probably need to stay at Saratoga, though. Just worried about transportation as well, but will need to count on getting a cab for the way home. I didn't think I needed to worry about the start - thought it was at EPCOT and could just catch a bus. I don't have details yet, so I guess I'm wrong. Didn't even think about getting a bus for the Expo! UGH!

Will try and get airfare and register on Tuesday, then I will "officially" join your group....see ya' real soon!

ETA: Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Course Description
Start at the newly re-imagined ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex running down Victory Way and then west on Osceola Parkway toward Disney's Animal Kingdom® Park. Make your way past the Tree of Life, Expedition Everest™, Dinosaur® and then race back to Osceola Parkway and head toward Disney's Hollywood Studios™. You will enter the park in the shadow of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™, run down Sunset Boulevard through Pixar Place, past Toy Story Mania!, then through the Costuming Tunnel in the Backlot on your way to Lights Motor Action! for your big debut! Race through the Streets of America, past Star Tours and Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular on your way to Epcot®! The course will wind through the idyllic village of Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts and lead you through the international gateway entrance to Epcot®, where you will finish just before your party at World Showcase!

Okay, the course is different than I thought. No start at EPCOT. Guess I will def need a cab unless someone knows some other way for me to get to the start and EXPO from Saratoga. How far is the walk to POR or POFQ? Will cab it home from the race.

I see the finish is at International Gateway. PLEASE tell me we don't have to run up that hill at the end of the race????

I'm staying at OKW, and before SIL planned to run with me (she lives in florida, so she'll have her car,) I was just planning on taking a bus to epcot before the race, then catching a bus to WWOS from the Poly. After the race I was either going to take a cab from Epcot, or take the bus to POR and get a cab from there since it's only a mile away from OKW. I think as long as you leave extra time to get to the start you should be fine catching a bus from one of the host resorts. I decided to stay at OKW because it was cheaper than any of the other resorts, even when you factor in money for taxi.

Is anyone taking a solo trip to run the half or any groups meeting up together at the after party? I planned a trip down about a month or 2 ago, but my travel partner has a new job :thumbsup2 yay for the job ... boo for maybe not getting vaca time that soon :headache:

So I was wondering if anyone will be there solo or would like to meet up at the after party for a little bit? I am staying at POP and I will be running even if im going solo...let me know :cutie:

Also hope everyone is having better luck getting their runs in...it has been so HUMID here in VA lately that I feel like falling out after 3 miles

I'm going 'solo', but I know I won't be alone. There will be plenty of friendly DIS folks there.

How much is the after party?

I want to say $35. Can't find the source of that right now though.

Hi all! I'm new here, but I'm signed up for the race. It will be my second half marathon. I'm running Disneyland the month before. I was actually registered for, trained for, and prepared for the Princess half, and caught the stomach flu the night before! I could hear the fireworks at the start from my hotel room. So miserable. But I'm excited to go back and try it out! I'm running "with" a friend (meaning she'll finish at least 30 minutes before me), but my mom is coming along as well, and we haven't decided if she's going to get tickets for the after party or not. I should call and find out the price.

I'm struggling with the heat and humidity here too. We have been hitting triple digits lately and the heat index pushes even higher. I have been doing most of my running around 8:00 pm (the morning is just too hard) and it is hot but manageable.

I'm going solo too! I don't know how long I'll last at the after party (I remember the days when 2 a.m. was still "early") but I'm always up for meeting fellow DIS'ers (since I have never met one ).

hipporina - I know how you feel! It's been pretty hot and humid here too. I went running yesterday afternoon/evening and everytime a runner was coming towards me from the opposite direction they'd say things like "This is miserable" or "When's Winter?" I've been doing the distances like I need to but my pace isn't as good as I want it (mainly when I run places where the sun is beating down on me through most of the run). I keep two big bottles of frozen water in my car while I run and they're pretty much completely melted but still cold when I get back.

I decided last weekend to come back in January to do the full but I'm not sure what to do about my training programs. My half program has me doing 3 weeks of post-recovery runs/rests. I need to figure out if it's necessary to do all 3 weeks before starting to train for the full :scratchin .

For those going solo, DH & I will be down and would like to meet fellow Dis'ers.

I have one week left to go in my C25K program and today I ran 2.8 miles non-stop (a first for me), I can do distance but just never have without some walking, so I'm pretty excited about that!

Does anyone know how much the discounted theme park tickets are and what parks they are good for? We are debating between a 2 or 3 day and wondered what the incremental cost was.

Thanks!

cobbler, good job on the 2.8. I'm up to a long run of about 7 miles, but I always stop and walk every few miles for 30 seconds or so. I won't walk more than that, but it feels good to take a little break.

I wish the DIS made tech-wear. It'd be fun to have a cute running shirt.

There are WISH Shirts. Usually ordered once a year - see sticky note at the top of the Events/Compatition forum.

"Welcome to the Wish Team "

I'm going solo but staying with some other DISers. I plan on staying until the end of the party, I can just sleep on the plane the next day. I'm sure as the race gets closer people will set up some post race meets. I will just make sure I have my WISH racing shirt.

Mrs D has some tables reserved at Boma for 5:00 on Friday if anyone is looking for a little DIS meet for dinner.

Thanks for the plug Frank!

I've reserved a group seating for Friday Oct 1 5pm at Boma. They can accommodate both DDP and OOP.

Please come join us if you can. Here's the link for the Sign up - Wine & Dine Pre Race Meet.

The more the merrier!

You can create tech shirts at www.runningbanana.com (also, I believe www.zazzle.com does tech shirts) and you could even use the WISH shirt artwork:

I've received many requests for the WISH shirt artwork. I would like to make the artwork available for anyone who WISHes to use it!

However, in order to keep the use in line with the WISH Team spirit, there are a couple of rules.

RULES FOR USE OF WISH TEAM ARTWORK.
1) The artwork is copyright protected and as such contains all the protection provided under the US Copyright Law.
2) The artwork can be used for individual use only. This means, you can put the artwork on items for yourself and family and friends, but not on anything that can or will be merchandised in any fashion.
3) The artwork may not be altered in anyway.
4) Any printing that will be more than just your local group (i.e., a whole WISH Team item) must receive written permission from me in advance.
5) All printing from this point on must contain the copyright line.

I have only done the January event and they didn't check to see if you were staying at a host hotel, so they would never know. I would be interested to hear what the runners who did the Princess encountered. The January event provides transportation from all resorts so resort hopping to catch a bus isn't really an issue. I am pretty sure the Princess also only has select host hotels that provide busing so did those of you who did the Princess event have to show ID or any kind of pass?

I did the Princess and did not stay at a host hotel because I was given a free upgrade (POR was overbooked). I was instructed to walk to Beach Club and catch the bus there. I didn't have any problems. They don't issue passes or check room keys or anything like that. I'm sure they just don't want to encourage people to hop to other resorts because they need to have a general idea of how many buses will be required at each resort. I doubt the few people who read and post here and choose to stay at another resort are going to cause any major logistical problems. I'm staying at the GF and plan to walk to Poly to catch the bus. I have absolutely no concerns about this plan other than the wisdom of walking between the two resorts at 3:00am by myself. I figure if the path is deserted and doesn't seem safe I will call a cab at Poly.

I finally got an email back from Disney in regards to spectators for the 5K in October:

Frank-
The Race will Start and Finish outside of Magic Kingdom. Spectators will not be allowed in the Park.
Thanks,
Disney Sports
