Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

DW and I officially registered for the Inaugural Wine and Dine Half Marathon today. :cool1: We also got a good deal on airfare and booked that today also. Hopefully DS will be able to fly down from school that weekend as there is not a foorball game!
We are staying at BWV.

Where do you get the Wine & Dine clippie?

Good for you both! I don't know where they got them but I made one... You are welcome to use it. My feelings won't be hurt if you don't, though. :goodvibes

Hi, everyone! We are tentatively planning a Disney trip in October 2011. Part of the reason we picked that time of year was so I could participate in the Wine & Dine half marathon. I am pregnant with my first child and due in September. I figured it's silly to even try to lose the baby weight over the holidays, so I can start training for this in January and should be ready to go by October. Anyway, I'm just wondering if this marathon is always scheduled for the first weekend of October. The first Saturday in October in 2011 is the 1st, so I wasn't sure if that would throw things off or not. We are renting DVC points from a friend for this trip and because of that, have to make our ressies at 11 months out. So I doubt they will have announced the dates for the 2011 marathon at that point. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

It's the first so the schedulling tie is not really known. But IF they plan to hold a 2nd annual we should have a date on or near the running of the event. Disney likes to tease you with the next event while feeling the magic.

cool! good to know. this will be my first disney race so i'm new to all this. thanks!

I have to say that everyone here is such an inspiration. This race will be my first half and when I first signed up I couldn't imagine doing it (I hadn't run steady in about a year) But if I was going to Disney this year I would have to run 13.1 miles for it (Shhhh....don't tell the kids Mom & Dad are going without them!) Well I come to these boards and read about everybody and how they are preparing and before you know it I'm back running again (up to 5 miles in just a few weeks :thumbsup2) And I'm addicted once again whereas I used to find excuses not to run, I am now finding ways to work a run into my busy daily schedule.

I just wanted to thank all that post here -- you don't know who I am (yet) but you are making a positive impact in my life. I am so excited about this race!!

Wine & Dine is my first Half, also. Good job on getting out there and training. This weekend I'll be training at 7 miles for the first time!

Hello,
This will be my first marathon of any sorts!:thumbsup2 I'm sooo ready for it. I have been exercising since April '09 and running since December '09. I'm up to 5 miles in 60 min. I plan to be at 7 miles in 60 min by the time October '10 rolls around. I have been training hard and I could picture me at that finish line.:cool1: It's going to be a fun race because I'm not doing it for the time this round but just for the experience. My best friend will be running with me and I can't wait to stop and take as many picutres as I can, dance with the DJ, wear my tiara, and let's not forget sing with the choir! My real goal is to do the goofy chanllenge 2011.

WHO IS READY?!?

Does anyone know what will be open for the spectators at Epcot that night?

I wasn't aware that anything would be open at epcot... If things were open I might be tempted to stay for the party. I hadn't planned to stay since I'm flying out the next day and figured by the time I finished and got back to the hotel it'd be around 1:30-2, and with checkout at 10, that's a short night after running a half marathon!

I'm planning on getting back to the resort around 2, and I have an 8AM ADR. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

:scared1: I think I would die! I never sleep in at disney, and almost always get up super early, even after the super late MK EMH during the summer, but I think i'll need to recover after the half. At least you'll be one of the first out in the morning to show off your medal!:cool1:

I feel a little behind. We have only been running for 8 weeks and my longest run so far has been 3.5 miles!

You still have plenty of time! And most (ok, I say most but really I have no idea; I just know the training program I originally used does ;) ) training programs only have you going up to 10 miles before a half anyways so you're almost halfway there :) :yay:

You definitely still have lots of time! I'm doing a Hal Higdon plan and I'm only doing 3 miles right now - plus I'm walk/running and not straight out running.

You should be OK. You are not behind on training distances. Try run/walking insteada of running strainght through. I would start with running 5 minutes and walking 1 and repeating. Tweak the ratio to what fits you best. It may be that running straight through is the better way....

If not on a training plan I would suggest looking at Higdon, Bingham or Galloway plans. There are several others out there but these are the ones most folks are familier with. Make sure that you are not running every day. At your level of running I would suggest no more than 4-5 days a week. Strength gains are made on off days as muscle recovers.

Good Luck with your training and we will see you on 10/2
