Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Hi everyone! I have been struggling with this one ever since it was announced since I am NOT a night person and quite nervous about how I will feel...but, my mom really wants to do it so she convinced me and I hit the "register" button today (will be registering for the Princess half tomorrow!). I will walk with her so there wont be pressure on me to finish fast so that is good! Anyway, just wanted to say hello and officially announce the addition of this race to my rest of the year calendar! (will be quite busy...doing the Miami Nice Triathlon Aug 29, this race, the women's Half Marathon Nov 21 and considering another Tri in Orlando in October!)

I've never done ADRs, and I've only eaten at 1 sit-down WDW park restaurant (I think it was Tony's or something in MK). Now that I'm getting these APs, I may do this more often.

Hi becky11,

I'd like to take a moment to thank you for serving our grateful country. Bless you :littleangel:

We always make ADRs for our WDW trips because in my opinion, the restaurants are as much of an experience as the rides, parades and shows. It's my understanding that AP holders are not privy to the free dining discounts unless you want to purchase a package that includes tickets, but that can be verified by others on this board. However, as an AP holder, you can purchase the Tables in Wonderland for $100 and receive 20% off food and beverages (including alcohol) at most restaurants in WDW. In the past, I have found that with an AP room discount and Tables in Wonderland food discount, it can be a bigger savings than the free dining packages. It's a win-win :thumbsup2

How is everyone doing with their training recently??

It has been hitting record highs here weather wise in VA and it is supposed to be 103 today...thank goodness for working inside an office with great A/C. I am going to have to push my run tonight until after dark I am thinking and start forcing myself up in the mornings!!! I got a little discouraged lately because I went running with people who can walk about as fast as my "running" :rotfl:

Struggling with temps in NYC, too. Ran a beautiful 29:06 5k yesterday in 85 degree heat at 9am. :scared1:

I have a 10k on Saturday, which I'm hoping to warm up (haha) with .8, making my LR 7 miles.

I am soooo not a morning person. I can only seem to do the mornings when I'm getting up for the group run. And this 100 degree weather here is just not working out for me. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet. Thought about possibly just walking to get in a short "run" during the week. But we'll see. These temps are just brutal.

I've been waiting for the sun to go down and then going out. I'm a night person and like running after dark so it isn't a big deal. Of course on long run days I don't finish until after midnight but it beats doing 2 hours in the heat any day.

Where do you run? Also, do you run alone, at night?

The neighborhood adjacent to mine has a lot of side streets so I can get even a long run in and stay off of main roads. I do run alone and never feel unsafe, I live in a safe suburb. If I wouldn't feel safe running alone after dark I wouldn't have considered buying there since I knew it would be something I do often, especially in winter when it is dark when I get home from work.

I do have to make sure that I keep an eye ahead for skunks though, they are active in the area after dark in the summer months.

We've been hitting 90's in MI and I did a short run Sat. Tonight I'm doing the treadmill, just can't do it outside...

Did a long run last weekend of 7 miles. Tonight I plan to do 5 miles as I didn't get out this morning because it was raining. I run in the country so tonight I will have to contend with some mud as well as the humidity. :)

Just tried to run on the treadmill. I'm doing week 1 in the bridge to 10K program. It is run 10 min, walk 1 min and repeat 4x. I made it halfway through and got sooooooo bored I just couldn't finish.

I'm going to go out and run outside and start over.. So I've learned, I'm either going to have to contend with the heat (and run at some really off-peak times) or push through mentally and suffer with the treadmill. Right now I'm definatly leaning towards the former.. It was gosh awful on that treadmill..

Hi everyone,

I hope you don't mind me posting here. DH and I are signed up for the W&D 1/2 as well. It will be our first half marathon. I'm working on planning our trip and deciding what days we will be doing what and this question occurred to me. I apologize in advance if it is a silly question or if it has already been asked, but here it goes:

I understand we will need to attend the expo at ESPN to pick up our race packets. To do this though, will we need to purchase a ticket to get into ESPN just to attend the expo to get our race packets?

TIA for getting back to me! I appreciate your help!

Thanks for the kind words! :goodvibes

And double thanks for the TIW info! :worship: I keep seeing references to it all over here and was going to start a mad search online for more info.

I did the math and it doesn't make any sense for us to get the FD package since we're going to get the APs and are still unsure which (if any) parks we're going to actually visit. My DH isn't the Disney fanatic I am so he'd be perfectly fine without stepping foot in a park. :upsidedow

I go out either at 5am or 9 pm. If I'm not careful, the extreme heat throws my sugar out of whack.

The temps have been high here in South Carolina as well and if I don't get out early in the morning, than it's just too dang hot!

I have the same problem when I run real early in the morning when it's still dark outside. I'm always catching them out of the corner of my eye. Luckily at that hour I can run in the center of the road alot, as I'm on small side streets with no real traffic.

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend :goodvibes.

I did an 8k on Sunday and while it was a nice course and I did enjoy it, I was frustrated at a few things but they can't all be perfect right? ;) My biggest issue was at the end when we cross the finish line and then proceed through the "chute" and there's about 5 people telling you to keep moving, rip off your tag, and hand it in at the end. The finish line is in the blaring sun, it's already 93 degrees, and then the line stops. There's about ten people in front of me taking off their tags right at the end to turn in and we're all stuck behind them at a dead stop because the "chute" is roped in:confused3. But overall is was a pretty nice race.

I don't want to wish away the Summer but I can't wait for the half! :goodvibes

I am in Charleston!! The first week I actually buckled down was the last week in June and it was INSANE!! Last week that little cold front brought us down to the upper 90's and I actually found it somewhat pleasant! Now it is really getting hot again. I started running at 9PM last night and I ran too fast bc I was scared:sad2:

Just had to say hey to another South Carolinian!
