Well let's see.....
Important Mile Markers in the loss of Innocence:
1) the loss of the small neighborhood store, replaced by big boxed everything
Loved the charm of the neighborhood store. Didn't love cramped aisles, limited selections, no parking lot. My grandparents' city home had the neighborhood stores. Suburbs where I was raised, and where my grown DD lives, have big stores, so I feel your comment is not realistic about meeting the needs of a growing town/city.
2) terrorism
The fear of terrorism is directly related to how much Fear TV you watch. Terrorism has existed throughout human history. Pearl Harbor was terrorism. Turn off the TV and start feeling better about your fellow man.
3) Extreme talk radio
Usually on the AM dial. Pretty worthless. What makes it annoying is TV programs focusing on it and giving it importance it doesn't otherwise have.
4) reality tv
Don't watch those TV programs.
5) cnn, and then tons of we'll make the "news" 24/7/365 media outlets
"We'll make the news" now also includes local news. Again, don't watch these TV programs.
6) when the nuclear family stopped being the way most kids were raised
When two parents have to work to pay bills that only one used to pay, everything changes. Blame influence of TV commercials building up a psychological need for "stuff" we don't really need.
7) when safety nets replaced the concept of personal responsibility
There are slackers. There have always been slackers. But I support safety nets. It is not a replacement for anything, it's a lifeline. And we're a huge country with many blessings, whose people can easily afford this.
8) when optimism was replaced by entitlement
Another TV-generated myth.
9) when the golden rule was replaced by the bridezilla mentaliy
Another TV-generated myth.
10) when legislation replaced common sense
Another TV-generated myth. You wouldn't believe that unless someone on TV spoon-fed it to you. Do your own thinking.
11) the days that Mr. Rodgers, Capt Kangaroo died
I watched them both, and Miss Rita, Some Clown Guy, Jim Henson. They were people from my time. In the great scheme of things, there are always inspiring people. The passing of those few you mentioned signals nothing, except that you and I are old enough to remember people that a younger generation never heard of!
.....to mention a few.
To summarize your post, TV is the root of all the negative feelings people have about everything these days. It is the great divider and the great conqueror and the great debt creator. Turn the TV off and get your humanity back and your brain re-engaged.
