Inappropriate costumes at MNSSHP

I saw them too but didn't think twice about it. When I was looking for Disney costumes, I saw alot of those kind only.
It is too bad they didn't add shorts or capri's but that would never occur to them because common sense left the building a long time ago.

I was in a Halloween store earlier this week and was appalled that the idea of "sexy" costumes has trickled down from adults all the way to small kids costumes now.
For many years it seemed all you could find for women was the "sexy" version of any costume...and it ticked me off. I would just make my own costumes because I agree with the whole skank factor (for instance, I made my own modern day Joker costume out of real clothes...yeah I'm a girl, so what).
But anyway, now those same skimpy costumes with the fake bustiers and thigh high socks are also packaged in things marking them as "teen" this or that...and even the little girls costumes had some of the same things!
Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz with thigh highs and a short ruffled tutu, little red riding hood with a bare shoulder top, sexy little police girl...it was GROSS.

I can't believe what the world is turning our little girls into.

the little kids dont even notice...so dont fool yourself!!!!!!if you are not secure with yourself do somthing about it.dont hate on other people...mabey some of those ladies were overweight too and worked all summer to loose weight and they want to show it off........dont judge people by there looks..THATS WHAT YOU SHOULD TELL YOUR LITTLE KIDS.......:worship:

To the bathing suit commets...

You gotta be careful with that comment, it's an antique.

There are also levels of indecency even at the pool/waterparks. Some bikins are a lot more flattering than others and don't leave butts and other bits hanging out. Some do.

Where the hell has innocence gone?!

Well let's see.....

Important Mile Markers in the loss of Innocence:

1) the loss of the small neighborhood store, replaced by big boxed everything

2) terrorism

3) Extreme talk radio

4) reality tv

5) cnn, and then tons of we'll make the "news" 24/7/365 media outlets

6) when the nuclear family stopped being the way most kids were raised

7) when safety nets replaced the concept of personal responsibility

8) when optimism was replaced by entitlement

9) when the golden rule was replaced by the bridezilla mentaliy

10) when legislation replaced common sense

11) the days that Mr. Rodgers, Capt Kanagaroo died

.....to mention a few.

The nuclear family is a 20th century invention. Did we have any innocence before it existed?

And I was a lot more traumatized by Jim Henson's death, than by Mr. Rogers or Captain Kangaroo. But really... did we really expect them to live forever? I imagine there are children today who will be shocked when the Wiggles pass on before them.

Terrorism is awful, but given our propensity to sugar-coat the past, I think someday we'll look back on the "naughty oughties" with nostalgia. Shoot, we even romanticize the dirty 30's!

But I agree with you completely about the 24 hour news channels, especially the emphasis on "punditry" and the disingenuous claim that anything their pundits say is really just opinion, not news.

You're right - in the grand scheme of things, there's harder knocks to our innocence than some lady's "sexy" costume. I have a hard time getting up in arms over a woman's choice of costume, especially when she'd still be considered *overdressed* for the pool. As long as the pertinent bits are covered I doubt any children will be traumatized.

A lot of husbands (and gay women) will be entertained, though!

from what I've read, it actually dates back to westen europe in the 17th century.

you articulate my point better than I had done...yes, each of us, from our own perspective with "points of clarity" like these and while I don't think any but the youngest might believe that and idol will live for ever, I think for most we quietly, inside are never prepared for the loss and it becomes meaningful to us.

part of the problem is that Disney will not let Adults dress in character costumes. My daughter wanted to dress as a Princess and got shot down. She spent alot of money on that costume also. She was upset. Something about not letting guests portray the Disney characters because they can get confused as Disney Employees and could cause problems if lets say for instance you were dressed as Snow White and decided to have a few drinks somewhere..
So many adults have no choice but to dress as a resemblance to some of the characters in a more provacative manner. Disney appearently does not have a problem with that!! And truthfully Neither do I! Except for my daughter, haha

You are allowed to dress however you wish for Halloween parties. I saw many adults dressed as Disney characters and there didn't seem to be any issues with that.

As far as the "sexy" costumes go, the problem is that they're pretty much the only things available. I needed a size 22 costume for a party, all I could find was "sexy this" and "sexy that", with bustiers galore... hellooooo I do not need to use my chest as a serving platter thank you very much !!! I can't even imagine doing a MNSSHP with one of those things on. Heck I'd probably knock myself out on Splash Mountain... but I disgress.

Comparing this to bathing suits would be relevant IF Magic Kingdom was a water park.

The phrase "nuclear family" dates from (at earliest) the mid-1920s. There were some father/mother/children style families in the two hundred years prior (and in ancient Rome, for that matter), but they were usually contained within a larger extended family, consisting of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc...

Not to mention, until the 20th century, middle class families had servants, which means even outside of the family unit, there were always other adults living and working in the family home.

Um... now how can we bring this back onto the topic of scantily clad MNSSHP-goers? I know! Such shocking costumes would *never* have been tolerated in MY day!

Oh wait, I grew up in the 70's and 80's! :rotfl:

The manner in which I intended 'nuclear family' to be used focused on a family group not limited solely to man/woman/kids, but also to include aging and extended member of the "micro tribe" as a harmonous group that worked together for their common good and supported each other emotionally.

Ok....back to the skin show!

I'm currently on the look out for a halloween costume...and am rather struggling to find anything that isn't either covered in blood and gore and/or outragously short (I'm only 5"2 so if it's very short on me it's only going to be even shorter on most women!).
I think the trend is for companies to only sell "sexy Alices" or things like that at the moment.
I'm really not shy and if I was to a bar or houseparty I'd wear something like that but I am finding it tricky to buy anything more "family-friendly" as it were.

Oh! I misunderstood. Doesn't that still exist, then? Just checking out my street... 1. Mom, dad, grandma, two kids. 2. Mom, dad, two kids. 3. Mom, dad, two adopted kids. 4. Mom, dad, two kids. 5. Mom, dad, one kid. 6. Mom, dad, twins. 7. Mom, boyfriend, their 6 children (from previous two marriages). 8. Dad, other dad, two kids. 9. Mom, second husband, kid. 10. Dad, son, adopted cousin. (He's presently the only single parent in the neighbourhood.)

Maybe we're weird...

Anyway, I don't think this thread has nearly enough skin! I want some candid shots from MNSSHP! (My husband's going to be SO jealous I'm going without him!)
